Wonder what the "Great One" thinks of this?

If I were him, I'd be more concerned about my daughter's lifestyle, even though she's an adult and makes her own decisions. But who knows, maybe "daddy issues" made her what she is today.

By both do you mean DJ and PGA Tour?  If so, I agree, DJ would have been better off feigning an injury  rather than making the open ended statement he did.  While it's none of our business, it's foolish to think others won't speculate and the potential causes can range from depression to drug abuse to who knows what the media will come up with.

I (strongly) disagree with this statement.  For the sake of this argument, lets assume that he does have a substance abuse problem; in which case, the LAST thing he should be worrying about is PR and his "brand" and what the public thinks about him.  The first (and only) thing he should be worrying about is getting healthy.  Honesty is a very, very good thing.  "Clearing the air" so to speak about something like this is not going to hurt him one bit where it matters, its only going to help.

I think what newtogolf meant was that both of those scenarios would be poor ways to deal with the matter, with the fake injury perhaps being slightly preferable to a vague reference to a "personal problem." I don't believe he was suggesting that the phony ailment was in any way the right path to take from the get-go.

From an instructor's group on FB

Like alcoholism, one never beats it.  Instead, one is challenged by the addiction each and every day.

Sad, but true. I have many friends going through similar things...hard to understand from an "outsider's" point of view, but it IS a disease. It's a disease that never, "goes away," but it IS controllable with the proper help. Sounds like he's moving in the right direction. Pretty crazy that he was able to not only function, but play at a high level. Imagine if he wasn't battling addiction this whole time...scary.

I too would prefer to hear honesty but the message from DJ was at best ambiguous and left too much room for speculation.  Most sites are reporting that he's battling a cocaine addiction, which is pretty serious, if it's true.

You don't "beat" addiction, you live with it.

It drives me nuts when people say stuff like "you can beat this" because the best you can do is learn to live with your addiction and make decisions that keep you from relapsing.

I don't think you should let that sort of play on words drive you nuts.. If you live with it and never relapse you have beaten your addiction, if you relapse you have not beaten your addiction.. Same thing!

Well when Matt Every got busted for pot, they just said they suspended him for "conduct unbecoming of a professional", according to Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard.

Johnson was involved in a burglary in 2001.  Even though he was young, that still, in my opinion, shows questionable decision making.  With regard to the earlier comments about Taylormade, they knew about that going in.  Just another questionable business decision by them.

I don't agree with that statement, but no point in arguing over it regardless. My point was more that the person said "he beat it before he can beat it again", which means he didn't beat it if he relapsed...

Your scenario of them never relapsing is more something I could deal with someone saying the "beat it", but to truly "beat it" would mean you could partake of whatever you were addicted to without falling into excess and/or making it a habit. For example, an alcoholic could be said to have "beaten" their addiction if they are able to have one drink and stop occasionally, but they are still an alcoholic. Regardless, that's just my point of view, doesn't mean it's the right one of course.

Sorry, I didn't see that you were commenting on that specific statement, "that he beat it edited an he will beat it again". In that case I agree of course that he didn't beat it the first time.. That makes sense! Your opinion is yours and it is never right or wrong, it is based on beliefs and current information you may or may not have, so don't worry about it! My point is that I Just didn't want a post driving you nuts that's all :)

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
