  1. 1. Would you be comfortable playing golf with a stranger who you knew was carrying a loaded revolver in their bag?

    • Yes. I am perfectly comfortable with that

    • No. I would ask to be placed in a different group.

    • Maybe. I would take my first impression of them and use that as a guide.

Note: You know the player is not a Law Enforcement Officer or Military.  You are also not in an area with dangerous wildlife. Example: Areas of Australia that have deadly snakes.  Areas of Alaska with aggressive bear populations.  Also, it is not a high crime area or area dangerous military conflict area.  Example:  You are not playing near Bagram AFB in Afghanistan or in Mosul Iraq.

This is a basically a question of how comfortable you would be with someone carrying a weapon while you play on a normal golf course at your local muni or public/private course.  You do not know that person or have heard of their reputation.

WARNING:  I will not let this thread degrade into a flaming gun rights/control debate where you call each other 'Nazis" and stuff like that.  I've laid out a clear hypothetical situation about your comfort level with a stranger with a weapon.

I would not be comfortable with it because there is no reason for me to know he has a gun, so I'd be a little freaked out with the fact that the guy told me he had it.

I wouldn't be comfortable, no, but I also probably wouldn't know. It is called concealed carry, after all.

If its concealed properly, no one ever knows, so whats the worry.   I bet the OP (and most of us) have played with people who CCW and never knew it ...

How would we ever know? Why limit the question to golf? Generally, those that are uncomfortable with other people who choose to legally arm themselves fear that no matter the circumstance. Neither does location/activity matter to those who are comfortable with the concept. My answer, no problem at all.

I voted the "maybe" option. I guess as long as I feel he/she isn't some whacko I'd wouldn't really care. The thing is, I'm not sure how he/she would demonstrate that they are not whackos seeing as they are CARRYING A LOADED GUN ON THE FRIGGIN' GOLF COURSE. The evidence is kinda stacked against them at this point...

The question states that, for whatever reason, you know he has the gun. But you're right, most people who carry concealed guns don't generally make it known. I don't worry or wonder if strangers are carrying a gun, but if a stranger I meet on the golf course feels the need to tell me he has it, then I'd probably be a bit freaked out.

I voted maybe, but as long as I got the first impression that they were mentally stable, I'd be perfectly comfortable with it.  In the proper hands, guns don't bother me in the least.

Nope. I''m not comfortable with someone if they are carrying a knife or a hand gun in any environment. There's so much we don't have in common and the concealed knife/gun is just the tip of the iceberg.

Same here. If I am concerned the guy is a nut job, the gun is not going to make a difference. If he wants to "get" me, he is going to, gun or not.

It doesn't worry me, provided it's legally held. I'd be a little worried if someone chose to carry an illegal firearm (although I can't imagine they'd tell me this, so it's a moot point). I would be certain to not get into any etiquette disputes with them after the recent incident. :-)

I would not be comfortable with it. Getting a concealed carry permit is pretty much impossible to attain in NJ anyway so I don't have to worry about it.

Like others have said you have probably been within a few feet of people with a CCW or whatever Canada calls them and not even known.

I have no issue with it all... There is a good chance if he was going to flip out that he would have done it a long time before coming to the course with it.. Besides, better in my group than in another group right? Just in case a nut job pulls his weapon out when we try to play through their slow ass group ;)
