Didn't hear that, but if he did, then he's just in a rut, plain and simple.

IMO a strange time to change. He was clearly rattled last week and the MC just put a bunch of pressure on him he maybe could have avoided. People speak of his composure but he runs a little hot and tends to play bad when he does. He putted funky too.

Is Peter Jacobsen 150 years old? Β He said today: Β "Back when we played (referring to another upper middle aged washed out pro), 351 yards was a good Par 4."

What he meant by "good" was solid length. Β 351? Β Really? Because as a guy who doesn't bomb the ball when I get on a Par 4 of that length I'm hoping to hit pitching wedge at most into the green.

I'm 41, and am old enough to remember golf announcers being marveled at Greg Norman's drives and approach shots in the mid to late 1980s. Β It's time these guys shut the flying hell up about being amazed that Dustin Johnson hits the ball further than they did.

"Witty golf quote."

Yes, they rely heavily on the hyperbole. "That is the best shot I've seen in a long time." (By long time, if you're being honest, you mean since last week right?) ;)

Dunno the story behind Stenson carrying his own bag here.

Spieth looks like he needs a break, and Rory needs more practice. Surprising scores from them both.

So Jordan can become world #1 this week despite a MC, if Jason Day doesn't win and if Rory finishes outside of the top 10. I think that's pretty neat.

Neat??? It just shows you how screwed up the OWR system is. To the topic, I am glad to see Ricky playing well. It would be great to see Ricky and Jason dueling it out on Monday.

Rickie is playing well. Β Hope he wins this week seeing Jason Day is moving backwards and Jordan is ... well gone fishing for the weekend.

Rickie definitely needs a good week. Was called overrated, then answered back with a win at the Players, but since then he's been mostly non-existent in the States. Needs to get back on the right track or else the overrated word will pop back up.

Not sure if it shows how screwed up it is or simply how similar to handicap calculations it is. It's a rolling 2-year period, right? So just like handicaps are rolling last 20, where you can shoot your best round in your last 20 and still have your handicap go UP or shoot your 10th best in your last 20 and still have it go DOWN, or shoot your worst EVER and have it stay the same. I imagine that's what's happening here? 2 years ago this week, Rory did better than Jordan did and that'll drop off in two days? I dunno.

That can only really happen if the round that falls out (#21) was lower or higher than the one you just shot (I'm talking of differentials, of course, not raw scores). It's pretty rare that those situations occur.

Unless you're talking about handicap revision dates, but then that's not reallyΒ the same thing because the OWGR is updated the equivalent of "every round" (i.e. every tournament), not every two weeks or whatever.

OWGR is like that with one big exception- the older tournaments get lower weights.

The most recent few months are 100% weighting, but then goes down from there. For example, the 2014 British Open gets 50% of full weight of awarded points. Β The other interesting thing is that they then divide points (after weight adjustment) by events played. That benefits Rory because he took time off. He accumulated no points but no events played, so the points/event stayed reasonably high.

Spieth has 635 points. McIlroy 543. But per event Rory wins 12.36 to 12.22.

It's funny how incredibly mathematical all these things are. Β And to get into how to award points for events in multiple tours, worldwide. It's a pretty complex formula based on strength of field. Lotsa number crunching.

FedEx Cup too. I liked how Spieth said something to the effect of Jason Day is the top player in the world right now. He didn't need a formula to know that.

Definitely think there's something mental there. Even at the U.S. Open he fell apart before coming back on 17 only to set up disaster on 18.

Looks like two men race to the finish.

Come on, Rickie!
