There is no other word, because the reality is that slaves are not paid (at all, let alone millions of dollars) and he was.  The correct term is employee.  And someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't picking up clubs part of a caddy's duty's.  Isn't this like someone complaining "my boss treats me like a slave - he writes letters and them expects me to proofread them".

It is hard to imagine someone in the Tiger-Stevie partnership ending up looking worse that Tiger, but Stevie is making a hell of an effort at it, IMO.

Steven A. Smith is a controversial figure but he's right here.  No one is going to shed a tear for Stevie given how much money Tiger put in his pockets and fame he gained as a result of his association with Tiger.

There have been a lot of good caddies out there but I can probably only name about 10 of which Stevie and Bones were probably the most well known.

And there you have it, the answer to everything, MONEY. If I put a lot of money in your pocket, you will do what I say and NEV ER have a word to say about it.  If you comment on your experience later, then others will bash you for expressing your feelings. WHY ! Because you made a lot of money.

Where is the dividing line ? A caddie never get's treated this way on the Web or a pro that makes 100K a year. Put 50M in someones pocket and all of a sudden they deserve the right to act like an Azz, and not have it brought forward by the caddie ? There is lies the difference on this site (mostly) between the have and have nots. You can read a 100K income opinion on here and oh how normal it sounds to the regular guy. They you read the silver spoon comments and it throws you for a loop. There is a group on the senior tour that have that air of "above everyone else" I noticed it with couples last week... Wish I could say he walks with an air of confidence about him. It is more a "I am an elite human and you are not" walk.

More and more these guys are destroying golfs relationship with the lower income people.... Gonna cost them all in the end.. No one should disrespect their caddie. When they do, it should be a problem the tour takes up with the player.

Just like I don't condone what Tiger has said or done, I don't condone what Stevie has said or done. Both men are flawed in a lot of ways. But from a golfing standpoint, I thought Stevie was good for Tiger just like he has been good for Adam. He's a fabulous caddy and I really wish Tiger would have stuck with him instead of going to LaCava. They had good chemistry together. But just like Tiger will never go back to Butch, Tiger will never go back to Stevie. Bridges are burnt to a crisp.

Stevie wasn't a slave, and as far as I know, he had the ability to leave Tiger anytime he wanted to.  He stuck around because the money was good and he was gaining fame being the caddie of Tiger Woods.

If one chooses (work at will employment) to work in an abusive WORK environment then they value the money more so than their pride and feelings.

Stevie wasn't a battered caddie, he liked the money and the spot light.  He pocketed all the money and in order to make more money he decided to write a book that presents himself as a martyr.  Poor Stevie, Tiger threw some clubs and made him pick it up for millions of dollars, cry me a river.

I agree, Stevie was a great caddie for Tiger, but in the end, Stevie's ego got too big and he forgot what his role in the business relationship was.

Tiger doesn't have Jordan Spieths demeanor and Stevie doesn't have Michael Grellers.

If you think that Williams doesn't have any interesting insights or information about what it is like to be in the thick of things in majors I'm not surprised that you think Williams  "racks" bunkers.

The book is about a relationship, not caddying.

Now go and look up Bruce Edwards and ask yourself why anyone would possibly be interested in him or his relationship with Tom Watson.
