In only two weeks I'll be packed and waiting to board a plane to Scotland for a week of fun.  Dundonald, Prestwick, Gailes, and Western Gailes, while staying across the street from Prestick.  Then North Berwick, the Glen, Gullane #2, and Dunbar, staying at a little Inn in Aberlady.  I can't wait.

I'm resuming my 50 state capital road trip on June 10, 2018. I'm planning to play in 25 capitals plus Washington DC. The list has the courses I plan to play and the order, weather permitting.

I played Western Gailes and Prestwick last August and had a blast. Stayed across the street from Prestwick myself. Great to take advantage of their pitching/chipping area in the evenings, but the course..woof. Still have nightmares about hitting  itin the rough at Prestwick and Western Gailes. I thought Carnoustie was easy after those courses.

We're staying at the Golf View Guesthouse, were you in the same spot?  Any recommendations for food and drink within walking distance?

You are in for a treat . If you can find time when in north Berwick Killspindie on route to Gullane is a not to be missed classic links and maybe Musselburgh  nine hole , the Oldest course in the world is something history buffs might like to play . You can even hire some hickory sticks and play it like in the old days .

Anyway have a great time and don't play pool in the golfers rest , they are bloody  bandits !

Yep! That's where we stayed. Great little spot. There were a few restaursnts that seemed good but we were there on a Sunday/Monday with early tee times and still a bit jetlagged because it was early in the trip. Ask the folks in the Prestwick clubhouse and they'll point you to one of the better local spots. We went to a pub that appeared to be a chain. I think it was essentially the Applebee's of Prestwick. Definitely go upstairs in the Prestwick clubhouse and have a drink after (or before) the round.

One of my playing companions lost his swing immediately upon arrival in Scotland. After two miserable days at Prestwick and Western Gailes. I went with him to the driving range on the outskirts of Prestwick near Western Gailes, https://www.gailesgolfleisure.com/. If you haven't gotten your fill of golf and want to make some full swings (you can chip at Prestwick), this place is a fun local vibe. Driving range with mats, and a pitch and a putt course we had a blast on.

I will be at North Padre Island, TX in May for 4 days. Not sure yet what courses are available in the Corpus Christi area, but I am sure, will get some good courses for me.

Will this complete your 50 state tour?

Goodwin Park GC Hartford, CT - I have played there several times when I lived in Hartford, one of the places I shot 67.  Short, but fun track, from what I remember.  

Western View - Augusta, ME - Haven't played here in years, short 9 hole course, nothing special.

Going to Wildwood, NJ soon. Is Cape May National pretty much the only choice? Public courses only - not a member of private so no reciprocal.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

All my bags are packed

so I’m leaving on a propeller plane, I know exactly when I’ll be home again. Nobody is lonely here.

Yes it may be only 120 miles away but I have to pack up the clubs like I’m heading to Auld Grey Toon. 3 days starting tomorrow at 11am at Kapalua, yes again, I did it 7 weeks ago, but this time I’m going to Lanai and will play all day at Manele Golf Club. Hope for 36 holes, then I’ll sleep.

A tad late. I have done a buddie trip to area for 25 years. Fave is Twisted Dunes, Atlantic City CC is great but pricey. Shoregate is fabulous. Stone Harbor is private but if ya call they may say OK.

My wife and I will be hitting the road later today for an annual meet up with friends. We are supposed to find some of the group in Beatty, Nevada. Beatty is definitely not a golf destination. However, 40+/- miles away is the Furnace Creek golf course, where we will be playing  a few rounds of golf. 

FCGC is located in Death Valley , California. The course was, or maybe still is the lowest course in the world at 214' feet below sea level. It was also listed in someone's top 50 hardest courses in America some years ago. It's a par 70 course. 

Folks talk about the difference between sea level golf, and golfing in higher altitudes. I have played this course many times in the past, and have not noticed any difference playing below sea level. 

Weather forecast is for high triple digits in the 116*-120*F range, and partly cloudy. Maybe a few sprinkles.

This is an annual meet up for our group. We started out 20 odd years ago with just 5 of us making the trip. We now have 15+ different folks showing up. We picked Furnace Creek because this time of year it's just plain to damn hot to be crowded. Most of us have our RVs and few will utilize the local motels. 

Not everyone will be golfing but a few of us fools will brave the mid day heat for a few rounds. Others will be doing the sight seeing thing. 

Once done in Death Valley a few of us will head into the cooler high country. This is a two week trip for us.

      Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.

      Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.

      Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.

      Taking a crack it, but looks pretty clear. 11.1  Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence. a. No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment. Reading further down it looks like they have to play the ball as it lies. No replay from the previous spot.

      I had an interesting one yesterday, a local qualifier for the US Senior Open, at the Cascades Course at the Homestead.  Well, first things first, the VSGA arrnged for the officials to play the Cascades on Monday at the players' practice round rate.  Its lots of fun, rather old-style (built in the 1920s).  anyway, a player missed a short putt, and (apparently embarrassed) took a step to be ready to tap the ball back in.  The ball lipped out, and hit the player's foot.  I was nearby, and they waved me over, and asked "What do we do now?"  I was pretty sure of the ruling, but asked them to wait for a few seconds while i double-checked.  I did have it correct, even though its one of the more confusing rules in the book right now.  I'll leave the correct answer out for now, in case anyone wants to guess, or research it, and post their ruling.
