I'm sure there were plenty of double digit scores as a young junior, but I can't remember any as an adult.  But maybe I'm just blocking the memory!

That would be my answer too. I took up golf at age 10, but I don't have any idea what my highest single hole or even round was. I do remember my lowest score though, an ace on a 150 yd par 3, at age 15. My only ace and I'm 62 now...

I'm not sure it is the highest score - but it is certainly the worst, in my mind.

I took a 9 on a par 4, and I hit the green in 2 with a 20 foot birdie putt; downhiller with the pin on a ridge. Putt 1, past the hole and it rolls off the green, shot 4 back up the hill and past the hole, then I lip out the putt and it spins to the front of the green, leave the next one short and it rolls back to where I started....well you get the idea. I basically 7 putted, though one of my buddies says that the ball was still moving when I tapped it in so he says I had an 11 with the 2-stroke penalty.

The best part is that this was the 10th hole, and as we were teeing off on 18 which is adjacent to 10 green there was a group of ladies putting and one of them had my exact starting putt and she hit it off the front of the green. She walked up to it and picked it up, all my buddies started laughing because she was obviously much smarter than me.

That would be a 14 on the 13th Hole at Hermon Meadow Golf Course in Hermon Maine when I was a sophomore in High School.  Quirky short Par 5 (430 yds), OB right, trouble everywhere for someone who sliced the ball at the time.  Was the first year of playing competitive golf for the High School team.  This was also the day I shot my highest score ever (113).  Wish I would've had LSW back then, maybe I would've just hit short iron, short iron, short iron, chip and a couple putts.

In 2009, before I took golf seriously, I played a private track with three guys from work as a going away event for one of them. We used carts but my game was so bad I felt like I walked the course twice. They told me afterward they stopped counting at 160. I had trouble holding a knife and fork in the club house , my arms were so sore. There had to be 10's involved.

In my junior years, sure I had some bad holes.

Since I've been playing competitive golf in high school and now I know I've had my share of high numbers but I honestly can't remember writing a 10 or higher down for any tournament but I'm betting I've had one or two.  :)

I think it goes to my style of play.  I've always tried to avoid big numbers and mistakes.  Many of my rounds in college were full of pars, a handful of bogeys and a birdie or two.  I still tend to play a similar way.

In 2009 I was moved up to A flight in the Michigan Amateur Tour.  B, C and D flights stopped at triple on a hole; Champion and A flights had to finish each hole or WD.  Long par four with long hazard before green, flared tee shot way right, over trees into the adjacent fairway.  I get to my ball and see what looks like short grass further up towards that hole's tee that would give me a mid-iron shot to the green.  Make a perfect shot to it.  When I get there it's not grass, it's thick moss.  Shot 3 in the hazard. Drop, shot 5 in the hazard.  Drop, shot 7 in the hazard.  Drop, shot 9 in the hazard.  At this point one of the guys in my foursome says "Hey, there's a drop zone on the other side".  Oh, nice to know.  Drop in zone, shot 11 on green and one putt for 12.  Knowing I was out of the running must have relaxed me.  Broke 90 and made two birdies later in round for skins.  About a month later I was moved back to B flight where I belonged.

The worst one that sticks in my memory is a 12 on the par 5 6th hole on my home course, and it is burned indelibly into my memory because it was in the '91 club championship.  I not only took a 12 on that hole, but followed it immediately with a 10 on the par 4 7th, on my way to whopping 104 to open the 4 round tournament.  I was a 10 handicap at the time - both rounds on the second weekend of the competition were in the 70's.

geez..   It's like most of you guys barely know the meaning of meltdown..

Try this one on for size.  Hole #14 at White Eagle Golf Club in Hudson, WI.   a hole aptly named "Psycho Drama"

Playing a my year-end tournament among friends, this particular performance by me in 2009, has now become folklore.

Driver off the tee (which was stupid to begin with as the back side of the fairway is only 268.  1 - in the water to the right, 2 - re-tee, 3 - in the water to the right, 4 - re-tee, 5 - in the water to the right, 6- re-tee.  put driver back in bag, take out 6 iron. 7 - snap hook 6-iron into left woods, 8- re-tee.  9 - 6 iron down the left side of fairway. 10 - shortside bunker.  11 - blade sand shot over green and deep into woods. 12 - ball not found. drop.  13 - chip on to green. 14 - miss 15 foot putt by 8 feet.  15 - drain incredible 8 foot slider.   card 15.

legendary.

I'm sure I've had higher scores, but an episode that sticks in my mind was when I made 9 two days in a row.  This was a Club Championship about 20 years ago, as I was improving from my previous 15 handicap to single digits.  I played the Championship Flight, which at the time was 36-hole stroke play.  I was doing OK in the first round, made a nice birdie putt over a ridge on 13, bogey 14, then birdie-birdie-birdie.  My first effort at the "big leagues", and I'd made 4 birds in 5 holes, I was just about jumping out of my skin.  Until I snap-hooked the drive into the water on 18. :hmm:  Then hit another snap-hook, splash. :scared:  Finally got one in play, made a nice up-and-down from the greenside bunker for 9.  The second day, no real fireworks, decent play, until I pushed my drive on 18 OB.  The rest is a fog, but I made another 9.  8 over on that hole, and I finished 7 behind the eventual winner.

I hope I've learned to cope with (self-imposed) pressure a little better since then.

My worst hole... it was the result of cheating by a competitor. So my second worst score was a 13 on the 13th hole... a par 5. I should have taken stroke and distance on my third shot. Instead I played it out of the tall grass.

Stemming from the responses to my post in this thread, what's your worst single-hole score of all time?

To be honest, I can't really remember one single terrible holes. I remember a few triples and quads here and there, but off the top of my head I can't remember anything in the double digits.

Anyone got a good story?

I don't like to think about these but they usually go like this.

In the green bunker, then I blade it over the green. For some reason I usually implode after the combo.

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.
