Yeah this one fascinates me. The Kennedy book by Stephen King is prolly my favorite work of fiction, but the whole topic is just so interesting to me.

That was an amazingly good book.

Out of all the conspiracies the flat earth thing never made sense to me because you can see for yourself that it's not true several times a month for your entire life.

The Oswald thing is pretty amusing too.  I don't know how many documentaries I've seen where they say it was an impossible shot, he needed help, blah blah blah.  I've been through that book depository twice and it really is a neat thing to tour but when you go up to the window and see the X on the street it's like pffffffffffffft.  I'm hardly a marksman but I would give myself a 60% chance of being able to hit someone in the head with an open sight pellet gun at that angle and distance let alone a real gun with a scope.

Anyway, I would encourage anyone interested in that event go tour the place because when you see how small it is between the window, the street, and the knoll it seems almost impossible to have the mass confusion and fairy tale that gets portrayed in books and TV shows.

They've done tests with actual marksmen. Few of them can pull off the shots given the tree that gets in the way (or got in the way at the time), etc.

While they are fun to talk about I always have the same issue with the gov't controlled theory's. The odds of everybody keeping the secrete for the rest of their lives are long. Somebody is going to come forward with proof. Either for the notoriety or cash.

Most times, things are exactly as they seem.

The Jimmy Hoffa story is always big news around where I worked.   He disappeared in 1975 from a restaurant near Detroit and was thought to have been buried in concrete at the football stadium in the Meadowlands.   Several years ago, a reputed mobster pulled the FBI's chain and told them he was buried at a horse farm in Milford, MI.   The FBI tore up part of the barn and dug around for three days looking for his remains.   The local bakery had a field day with this making cupcakes with a hand coming up from a grave.    His remains still haven't been found.

Fear of being killed off I suppose. Seems like you would be right but "accidents do happen" and it might be enough to keep people quiet.

I don't believe in them simply for the fact that people cannot keep secrets. That being said, the fun ones for me are the Illuminati and Priori of Sion because they have supposedly existed for centuries and bring in the Knights Templar and other major figures in history like Newton and Galileo, etc. These are beautifully crafted conspiracy theories like fine tapestries and are tough to disprove because the central characters are long dead.

I always wondered, what's on the bottom of the flat earth...

I love reading Flat Earth arguments; they sound plausible at first but then make no sense if you think about them for a couple seconds.  My absolute favorite is how Round Earth defenders use NASA photographs as proof and then the Flat Earthers start by saying NASA has never gone into space and then proceed to explain why the photograph is "clearly a fake" based on how it looks.  If we never went to space and looked at the Earth, how the hell do you know what it should look like!?

Yes! Easily King's most "human" characters, the level of depth to those characters. I love Sadie Dunhill.

Great thread - I've seen this one go on for 100+ pages on other boards. Personally, I'm all out of tin foil to make any more hats, so I just sit back, read, and enjoy the ramblings of the interntati

I am not sure if this qualifies as a legit conspiracy theory but the one I believed for a long time is that Wall street runs Main street.

No but most people are clueless. Most people don't know AWS is a 12-16 billion dollar business.

What?  You don't need NASA or math or anything.  You can fly or sail around the earth and thousands (millions?) of people have.  They could all be lying.  I guess that would be the conspiracy.  Maybe the pilots are lying and they actually just took you to Chinatown and back.

Well, instead of saying they sound plausible, I guess it's more accurate to say that it takes a second to realize what they're saying is false (e.g., they like to mix units and compare measurements of two different things), why it's false, and to come up with the argument against it.

I can't/won't defend or explain their BS, but it's entertaining to read.

I found this website and thought this was a particularly awesome piece of self-delusion.  I don't know if this site is intentionally tongue-in-cheek, but there are others that argue the same kind of thing.  Most of their "proofs" hinge on denying the existence of gravity.

121) When you observe the Sun and Moon you see two equally-sized equidistant circles tracing similar paths at similar speeds around a flat, stationary Earth. The “experts” at NASA, however, claim your common sense every day experience is false on all counts! To begin with, they say the Earth is not flat but a big ball; not stationary but spinning around 19 miles per second; they say the Sun does not revolve around the Earth as it appears, but Earth revolves around the Sun; the Moon, on the other hand, does revolve around the Earth, though not East to West as it appears, rather West to East; and the Sun is actually 400 times larger than the Moon and 400 times farther away! You can clearly see they are the same size and distance, you can see the Earth is flat, you can feel the Earth is stationary, but according to the gospel of modern astronomy, you are wrong and a simpleton worthy of endless ridicule if you dare to trust your own eyes and experience.

To summarize, the moon and sun are the same size in the sky, you can see that the earth is flat and feel that it isn't moving.
