I'll usually hit a full GW.

Late last season I started experimenting with a 3/4 PW, partly due to your influence @onthehunt526, with pretty good results so I might go with that instead.

Two years ago I was the former, now I’m the latter ... thanks to @mvmac‘s flighted shot how-to thread.

A full 60 degree goes about 130

Holy shit.  I thought I could hit my irons pretty far but I’m lucky if my lob wedge goes 95 (and it’s 58 degrees)

Yea I've known how to flight shots when I needed to for wind or whatever, but it wasn't until recently that I started doing it all the time on normal approach shots.

Honestly, I watched the @mvmacvideos on flighting shots with short irons. And didn't realize actually it was what I was doing. If I want to take 5 yards off of a 9-iron, I choke down a smidge and take a normal swing. For 15 yards, I choke down a little more and take a 3/4 swing with a shorter follow-through... So it hits skids and checks.

Flattish lie, no wind, maybe choke down a little on a pitching wedge since it goes somewhere between 125-130. Swing would be a stock full swing.

I don’t like using full swing for anything under 140 yards

i have better accuracy starting with 3/4 knockdown type swing say 8I for 130-140 yard 9I knockdown for 120-130 yards

PW knockdown for 110-120 yards

GW for 100-110

The difference is i don’t swing as wide with 3/4 swing and finish lower.  Try not to get too narrow.

Tricky distance for me is 60-100 yards

i use one club usually it’s a SW or GW close to 54 degrees try to flatten my swing by looping my swing   It’s mostly feel for that distance   I pre close the club face to amount of height and distance I want to carry as it translates to degrees of closure

Flighted 9iron. I feel I take the hands to shoulder height and hold off the finish, the speed for the shot (not that much speed) comes from the body turn.

Normal swing with solid contact my PW should be around 125.  Could also take a nice easy 9 or an out of my shoes GW depending on what the miss could be long or short.

I rarely if ever hit it the full distance. But yeah, I can hit it pretty good. I try to take as few full swings as possible.

There are way too many variables, @iacas to include a poll.

So we all know that golf courses are not flat, don't have days with zero wind, and temperatures aren't in always between 68-75° everyday.

So you are on the flattest hole of your home course, You are 125 yards out, in the middle of the fairway, not much trouble around the green, not a severely sloping green, just average undulation on the green, light wind from the prevailing direction for your course... So what club to you hit and/or what kind of shot do you play? This is open to interpretation, but this is a realistic example.

I'll start: Technically 125 yards should ideally be a slightly longer than three-quarter wedge... I actually prefer a 10 o'clock 9-iron which is my 140 yard club full. Maybe choke down a half-inch or so.

Your Turn Please be honest this is a forum of integrity.

Used to be a hard PW or a soft 9I.  Choice would depend on where the friendliest miss was.  Now it's a full 8I, and with any notable head wind could be as much as a punched 6I.  My home course has a slightly downhill 135 yard par 3, and I've even hit the green with a low 5I into a strong wind there.

3/4 PW choked down... Kind of depends on if I want to carry it past the hole on how hard the swing is.
