The Physiological Golf Shadow

Does anyone else face the problem of the shadow position on the ground in your golf swing causing you to lose or gain confidence in each individual golf shot?

For example, if I'm setting up to a shot and the shadow of my body is in front of me and slightly to the left I feel like I can hit the shot perfectly every time.

But as soon as the shadow position position changes, for example the shadow is directly to my left or behind me or directly to my right (basically any other position other than front left) I lose a large portion of my confidence...

And if there is no shadow (cloudy day) I tend to have my confidence back as if the shadow of my body on the ground was in the front left position of my swing/stance.

Is anyone else suffering from this horrible golf disorder? Any tips to help cure it?

I don't care where my shadow is but I made the mistake of watching my shadow on a practice swing one time and it put me in a slump for a week (and I was playing fairly well until then). a2_wink.gif

See the problem is that I know what a golf swing is supposed to look like and mine ain't it.

It can be an issue if you let it distract you.  The best way to overcome this is to find a range where you will have the shadow over your ball.  Go through your practice and learn to focus away from the shadow.

Nope, never bothered me.

 

I would just practice in that uncomfortable situation until you can hit golf balls well. Don't shy away from the situation, challenge it.

Never notice shadows. Once I get over the ball it is all routine.

This could be another version of "Hey Joe, do you inhale or exhale during your swing?"  --- Great way to mess up someone's swing thoughts.

 

On the other hand, maybe if the OP thinks about his breath instead, it will solve this problem.

 

Or double them.:-(

totally messes me up.  i find that i have to superfocus on the back of the ball.  if my shadow is on top of the ball then my swing is shakier than a boy scouts knees at Neverland Ranch....

Whenever my shadow is covering my ball... I just go to the other side and hit left handed.  ;)
