So just thought it would be cool to see what others are working forwards. PGA pro's work forwards winning majors, this got me thinking. What is my major, what have I been practicing for all year long? For me I want to break into the 80's by the time I hang up my clubs for the winter, in about 2 months. I've gotten close hitting in the low 90's for around a month and a half now. So what is your major?

Being this was the first year I began taking my game seriously since high school, I wanted to be able to A) get my handicap down to where it was when I left off and B) be able to compete with some of the better sticks that play at the course I practice at. So far I'm a stroke lower than I expected to be on my H.I. and have beat a couple of the (what I consider to be) better golfers in my league with total scores. I'm pretty happy with my improvement this year and next year I'm planning on working harder to compete in some local amateur tournaments and maybe start checking out what I need to do to get involved in the industry.

5 hcp or less. Not the "same course everyday" hcp. I'd love to be able to play in a club championship and not humiliate myself. I hear about people who travel around and play so many courses and get thrilled to say they broke 100. I honestly wish I had that kind of temperament. I suffer with the problem of if I don't play well, I don't have fun. Anyway, just being a respectable golfer would be satisfying for me. When the local choose up picks.. I don't wanna be that guy who gets defaulted to a team.

To be able to beat this one friend who plays anywhere from a 6 to a 12 depending upon the time of the year. I guess I just need to wait until he's in his "12" time of the year. :-P

Sounds like I'm back in college. :-) My major is shooting 69 on a par 72 course. Shot 69 once but on a par 71 barely 6000 yards. Doesn't count in my book.

This weekend my fantasy football league (which has been around for over a decade) is having our draft in Atlantic City, NJ. 8 of us are going to be playing tomorrow before the draft. Most of us are hackers but a few guys played on the team in high school but play less nowadays. Even though this round is for shits and giggles, it's all friends of mine from back in the day, most of whom the last time I played with was when I was HORRIBLE. I'm really motivated to shoot a good score and show off how much I improved. Tomorrow is definitely my major even though no one else will probably take it as seriously as me lol.

BTW in case anyone knows the area, we're playing at McCullough's Emerald Links. I've never played in AC but they had a decent deal and the course looks real nice.

So what is your major?

Growing up it was winning the San Francisco City and/or the Cal State Amateur.

Now I have no idea what my major is but it was a lot of fun winning a member/guest with my buddy earlier this year at the course where we grew up.

Civil Engineering?

Civil Engineering as well!

Next up are inter-club league playoffs.  It would sure be nice to win this in my last year as captain.

But the real major is coming up in September, in Phoenix!

My "major" is an annual two-day invitational tournament with a bunch of longtime friends/co-workers that we've played for 16 consecutive years and running.  I never expect to win because we play straight up (gross scores) and there are a few single-digit HI's in the field, but it's my goal every year to shoot better than I did the year before.

This is my first year of golf in about ten years. 25 Years ago I organized a traveling "tour" where 10 to 15 of my buddies and i would play nine on a different course every week for 18 weeks. We had a major at the end of the season 18 on a course we never played before using our season handicaps. Gave out a trophy, jacket, etc. Fun as hell. This year I have been trying to reunite everyone with the same idea.9 holes Every other Monday until Oct 11th then the big event. Eight club challenge at Totteridge. 7100 yards. Golf digest voted the course third best in the area behind only Oakmont and Laurel Valley. Cookout at my place after. Got nine players in so far. Looking forward to it big time. One friend is flying in from Wisconsin for the day. Anyone want in let me know:-)

Right now it's the NewportCup!!! Long term, my "major" is a handicap legitimate enough to play in some amateur qualifiers. I think under 3.4 will get me into a bunch of the State tourneys so that would be a nice little goal. Then 2.4, then 1.4 ... ;)

Are you talking about something like the SCGA scratch match play qualifiers?

Not to embarrass myself on the course is always what I have worked towards. Been pretty successful at that. Of course there have been several "stinkers" over the years. After one of those, I just focused more, and made a good showing of my golf talent...such as it is, was, and will be.  Now days, I just want to keep playing as long as I can. My wife and I always go on a few golf road trips every year. We don't ever make any plans. We just get in the RV and drive for a few weeks.

Something like that, yeah. U.S. Open is 1.4 IIRC, U.S. Am is 2.4, state am might be 3.4 and SoCal am might be 4.4. Then there are also the same associations' mid ams. Each of those is slightly easier to qualify to register. I'd probably start with the SoCal mid am and gradually work up as I was able to.

    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
    • I've played the Tour in both white and yellow.  They play well and seem to hold up pretty good even when running into trees or cart paths.  Right now, I've been trying them against the Bridgestone Tour B RX ball and I really like both.  The Snell 3.0 looks to be a great update to the issues Snell was running into with the previous generation.
