Guess How Many Golf Holes in the World? A Guessing Game (Answer: ~600,000)

Without doing any research at all, guess how many honest to goodness golf holes* exist in the world, to the best estimates of the R&A/USGA.

Post your guess below. No spoilers until at least September 10. No research, etc. until it's been a few weeks. I mean, you can do the research AFTER you post, but don't post about your research until later.

* Real golf holes, like regulation length. Not mini golf. Par three courses usually would qualify. But there aren't many of those, so, basically 9- and 18-hole courses.

I must be doing something wrong seeing the other guesses. My logic was an average of 100 courses per state in the US, so roughly 5000 courses, 90,000 holes in the US. The rest of the world, I dunno, times 1.5? That's 225,000.

Lana’i has 45 so if that’s 45 holes for 3200 people than the world population being what it is, I’ll go with 985,915.5: the .5 is an inexcusably short par 3.

I would guess there are more than a 1/2 million golf holes in the the world, but way less than 1 million. 

Guessing a nice round number,  there are 50K courses,  counting both 9/18 hole courses. Average 15 holes per course for no apparent reason. 

I am going with 750, 000 known golf holes. Probably another 75K (10%) not every one knows about.  Yeah, 750K would be my guess.
