ESPN is reporting the KoreanTour has suspended golfer Bio Kim for 3 years for giving someone in the gallery the middle finger. 

I guess he is one of their better golfers. 

Apparently someone's cell phone made a noise during his swing, and his drive off the tee only went 100+/- yards. 

Off hand, it eems like the punishment doesn't fit the crime. Then again, I guess they take their pro tour pretty serious over there. 

I am not sure if he can play on other tours during his suspension.I would think he probably could.

Korean golfer Bio Kim was suspended for three years and fined about $8,350 for making an obscene gesture toward fans after a cellphone...

Seems a little harsh to me. Also, Sergio gets a slap on the wrist for damaging greens, and this guy gets a 3 year suspension for flipping someone the bird?

Should have been using one of these. Maybe his drive would've gone farther.

The spectator should have been removed from the course.   Three years seems way too long.

Three years for flipping the bird is insane.

I've done about four things worse than that in the past hour and I'm not even angry.

Reminds me of that kid that got caned in Indonesia (I think?) for spitting on the sidewalk

Just have them shut it off, put it on silent, or hand over the phone until they leave.  A phone noise is probably an accidental oversight - albeit a careless and stupid one.  The guy's a pro - he should deal with it.  It's like flicking off a bird for making some noise.  It's a tantrum, IMO. 

I'd rather see people that shout crap or trash talk the players or get drunk get escorted off.  It's on purpose.  things done purposefully or with malice should get a response.  Immediately and directly and consistently....

Not that I know him, but that guy, Michael Fay,  came back from there to live with his dad in the town just west of where I am now, Kettering, OH.

Along with the caning, he served 83 days in jail for vandalizing cars. Something he denied. He said the Singapore cops beat the confession out of him. Some time after that he was checked into rehab for butane abuse.

Supposing the golfer has the skills to play elsewhere, he may be better off that old Mr. Fay.

That, my friends, is cruel and inhumane punishment.  The guy he gave the finger to most likely deserved a punch in the mouth.  The aggrieved party here is getting the punishment.  It should be the other way around.  I really hope he finds another tour on which to play.

Wouldn't it be something if a friend of his was asking him, "What time do you want to meet for lunch," and the golfer was simply saying "1:00?"

I haven't read much about this story, but did he have priors?  There's a world of difference to me between this penalty on first offense and if he has done it before.  I'm also in the camp that wants to see something done next time Sergio does something obnoxious though too.

Agree. I think we look at this from a western point of view. Over here if someone flipped you the middle finger not much (if anything) would be done.

In many eastern cultures they are very high up on respect, politeness and general good manners and there is nothing wrong with any of those (some over here could do with learning the above).

In some Eastern cultures even showing the soles of your feet is a criminal offense. So while it seems like a harsh punishment to us he probably feels he got off pretty lightly, especialy after seeing him on hi knees begging after the tournament.

I'm asuming the ban only applies to the Korean Tour?. If so he still has options for the next 3 years.

I was messing around with the camera part of my phone. My wife ask me what I was doing. Told her about Kim, and that I was checking the noise level of the camera feature on my phone . She told me to put my hearing aids in.

When I first went to Singapore, we were coached not to spit or chew gum. You can get arrested.

      I added to total today by hopping it in on the first hole for an eagle. A short par 4, I hit 4 wood to 110. With a little breeze in my face I hit a 50 degree gap wedge to 2 feet and watched it hop into the hole for an eagle 2!

      Day 14 (September 18).  Morning practice, despite questionable weather (it's raining).   Worked on chipping at first, including run-ups with UW and PW;  I've noticed lately some of my near-GIRs are missing forward, with nothing but grass ahead of me, but 20-30 yards to the pin.  After a few misadventures putting those lately, I wanted to at least get a feeling for what a 30-yard chip shot that doesn't have the variance of my quarter lob wedge would feel like.  I still think "putt when you can putt" is right, but... I am less sure I have a 30 yard putt in me.  Range time also, of course, same routine as the past week or so (drill, 3-4 slow shots, etc).   Did not get to the putting green as it was starting to come down a bit more. Darn, it really is raining.  And I thought today would be a perfect day to play, seeing as how it's 9-18 and all.
