I like Rory but he has certainly disappointed more than astonished me and maybe himself. What I don’t think has any merit anymore is to claim Rory as a favorite going into any tournament. I keep hearing how he’s the favorite and he flops. I’d say leave him alone and quit jerking to the fake frisbee throw like a black lab. He’ll win we does. Zero expectations.

Rory wins the RBC Canadian Open by 7 shots with a 61 in the final round.

25 professional wins, 16 of them being PGA tour wins. Still 4 majors though.

People expected this type of play very frequently - so yeah, that was overrating the kid.

But still a great player - it would be fun to see this more often.

But that expectation was foolishness.  Expecting the latest 'hot' guy, whether it be Rory, DJ, the Justin's, et al, to play at a dominant level for more than a couple of years was completely unrealistic.  Only Tiger has done that.  The rest are Ralph Guldahls.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

The disappointment has been the majors since his last win in 2014. He had a chance of winning the 2017 and 2018 Open, but other than that, he really has been a non-factor down the stretch. He's posted some good backdoor finishes but has been pretty non-existent in majors. He won the Players and then laid an egg at the Masters and PGA, two courses that suited him well.

He's had a solid year and run of things this year, and he's got his fair share of wins, but I think we're waiting for him to collect some more major championships. He's too good to only have 4 and 0 since 2014. I don't want to say he's "overrated", because he has potential. I would just say he's "underachieved".

This is the kind of play that I've been expecting of him for quite a while.  I can't wait to see how he does next week.

He makes a real good living. Doesn’t act foolish/controversial. He’s doing fine....after all , he is playing against a bunch of other golf gods too

Agree.  Rory is simply awesome, or should I say Brad faxon is awesome.

Only thing I have against Rory is he gets too “complainy” from time to time. Like in his comments about the USGA and his threat to boycott. I could do without that. Other than that, he’s good for the game.

Rory becomes the 2nd player (Tiger Woods is the other) to win multiple Fed Ex Cups with his win at the Tour Championship today. Biggest pay day in golf history ($15 million).

26 professional wins (17 PGA tour).

If you consider the Players and the Tour Championship, the unofficial 5th and 6th majors, respectively, then Rory deserves serious consideration now for POY.

Some of the POY stuff is just points, IIRC. The other one the players vote on.

If they included personality in POY Koepka wouldn’t have a chance. Great win for Rory and his statements are so much more enjoyable than the oaf’s.

Good grief, now we’re adding yet another “unofficial major”?

Where’s the BC Open when you need it?  Surely it couldn’t be far behind...

This is a nothing burger, but I just thought it was interesting McIlroy won his majors in a 3 year span and then nothing, and Speith all of his in a 2 year span and then nothing.

First, Tiger was absolutely ridiculous (and his best years, relative to the fields he played, were probably before strokes gained started). But, Rory has had the best season of anyone not named Tiger. It's funny that we won't remember this season because he didn't win a major, but he was the best player on the PGA Tour this year. We obviously remember Tiger's 2009 for other reasons ...

Also, this is too on point:

Why should the Tour Championship be considered a 6th unofficial major?

WGC events have deeper fields than the Tour Championship.

    • Day 314 - Putting some things together. Better grip/setup, fuller backswing, better finishing position. Filmed some swings, happy with the progress.
    • Day 130: did a stack session.
    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
