Heading out to Portland this Fall for a golf trip.  I may have to check out that course.  We are heading to Crooked River.  Have you played there?  If so,  thoughts?

This is the 16th hole on the Palmer course at Geneva National. It was in amazing shape for April in WI.  It was one of the nicest courses I've played in WI to this point. I would imagine that the 16th looks even better in fall with the leaves turning. I attached the scorecard below. It was a chalanging course but fun. I liked every hole nothing gimmicky. 92e042a9acb5f562e0a74edb_m.jpg

A few from Burnham and Berrow last night in beautiful late evening sunshine. Had the place pretty much to myself so took about 2 hours to play the 9 hole course, dropping five balls around each green after I was done to practise my short game. It takes me a shade over an hour to drive there, but membership is still one of the best decisions I've made - golf-wise. It plays as good as it looks, too :-). (@RandallT)

Worth double-clicking to get them full-size, btw.

Whiskey Creek in Frederick, MD.  Old distillery ruins can be seen in the far right and left.  The left ruins split the 18th fairway...not a fun par 5 but a beautiful course.

Thanks! I'm usually up there visiting my folks, but if I'm in the area when they're out of town, I'll be sure to shoot you a PM to play a round.

County Louth Golf Club, Ireland, just north of Dublin. I love links golf.on these courses where the key is to keep the ball close to the ground. I bounced this one up tight from 202 yards with a six iron, which I normally hit around 155-160.

Frederick MD...Is that not close to where the old Naval Communications Station was? I seem to remember that name from my service days as being between Washington D.C. and Pax River. (guess I could look at a map-duh)

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
