Start incurring penalties or something. More rounds in the low 80s, please.

But you can probably wait a few more weeks. You play enough golf that you can play 20 rounds from September until, oh, October 15…

I think I want to sign Natalie up to get a handicap index next year. I bet if I paid the pro at Whispering Woods, he'd just set one up for her.

I hit one OB on 18 today for a double, could have been 71, so I'm trying.  This is actually a 2-day stroke play tournament, I'm in the running to make a few bucks

I just wrote myself down from 32.6 to 26.2 over one 18 hole round. I didn't want to update anything before I had atleast one more round in the same ballpark.

Felt i wrote myself down too much, and I wasn't sure if I just had a very good round or that I have improved so much since i started playing for 4 weeks ago :)

After blowing the early months of the season trying to sort the shanks, I've been able to play complete rounds and post a decent number of them through June and the first half of July.

The number finally moved on this last revision to a 20.5. Down .9.

I have not had a official handicap in years and estimated it based on average score over par, for example playing even boogey for 18 would give me an 18 hcp.  After joining this forum this past weekend and reading parts of this thread I thought why not get an official handicap.  I have my scorecards for the year thinking I might want to get this done.  So today I signed up Golf.com and entered all of my scores and putts for the season.  I was surprised at how close I had estimated my handicap and the actual.  I am a 12.4 and current trend is at a 10.4.  My goal has been to get back under 10 again since starting to golf again 3 seasons ago.  The sad part of my game is how erratic it has been.  I have had 2 rounds in the 70's and 2 rounds at 97 and 99.  My last round two Triples (8's) and still shoot an 83.

I have one Eagle so far this year and left a putt on the lip for a second Eagle.

So in all of this rambling, thank you TST for somehow pushing me to get a real handicap and since I am a really true stats geek and total club geek I really like all of the stats that the handicap service is giving me.

Here are my goals - get under 10 this season.

Next goal get to scratch - when I was young I was close and out of frustration with getting to serious I walked away from that goal and then walked away from golf.  With age I now can balance out the ups and downs of this absolutely crazy game.

My ultimate goal is to play in a US Open Qualifying event - just once

You can laugh at me if you want but I left it out there for all to see.  Now I just have to figure out how to turn taped swing from a movie into youtube for TST to review.

Thank you for letting me join this group

Latest revision brought me down to 9.7 from 10.9.  I had a couple 9 hole rounds in the 37 range and this combined for a 74.  I feel confident I can shoot in the low 80's most of the time but have not shot in the 70's for 18 holes since last summer (79).  Here is my posted score history... I see some of my low scores are my Thursday night 9 hole league.  I have to say I'm not sure how fair it is to use 9 hole scores to calculate since I can keep it together for 9 holes and then blow up on the back nine.  At Qualchan I play the front nine much better but struggle on the back which has a lower slope but doesn't fit my eye very well.  Typical score on the front will be in the 37 to 39 range and on the back 40 to 43... rarely break 40 on the back.  Sometimes the combined scores for Revision purposes will use 2 front nine scores.  I've been working hard on my game and I'm happy with the reduction in handicap but I'm not sure how it's going to translate to tournament results in the next couple weeks.  Time will tell.

    • I mean, a golfer is trespassing and damaging property. So, golf rules don’t supersede state laws. 😉 Like, if it isn’t marked and is off golf property. The right thing to do is take an unplayable lie or take stroke and distance.  Also, this is a liability for the course. The homeowner could easily say the course is liable for damage done because they knowingly didn't mark their boundaries which allowed golfers to trespass and damage property.
    • Interestingly enough, if the course (the Committee in Rules terms) doesn't mark the boundaries, there is nothing out of bounds.  I realize that neighboring homeowners would take a dim view of golfers whacking balls from their backyards, but that's what the Definition of Out of Bounds requires. "All areas outside the boundary edge of the course as defined by the Committee."
    • I had two events the past two days. Yesterday I was playing a course blind. Hit it solid. Hit 9/14 fairways, 12/18 greens, 34 putts. Many of those putts were the result of balls that were close-ish to the hole when they landed, but wound up a long way away once they'd finished rolling (backwards mainly). Then today, hit 11/13 fairways, 11/18 greens, 37 putts, and shot 80. 8 over par and it wasn't particularly pretty. My big problem today was my pitching. I was inside 100 yards of the hole and off the green on 9 occasions.  1st - drive to about 75 yards, fanned a 58 degree short and right. On the green, but a good 40 feet away and good two putt from there (so took 3) 2nd - laid up to a bunker and it's narrow past it, so had 165 in, missed it right with an 8 iron. Wet rough, chip from about 5 yards off the green and the club snagged. It got on the green, but only temporarily. Overcorrected a bit on the next one and hit it a bit firm and it rolled out to about 35 feet. Putt didn't break and it ran on a bit and I missed the one back (greens were fast and a little bumpy, which didn't help, but doesn't excuse either). (took 5 to get down from close to the green) 4th - had about 95 from the right rough, hit it on the green and two putts (3) 5th - 90 from the fairway, tugged it and it got a firm bounce, chipped on and hit what I thought was a decent chip, but it ran out down the hill and two putts from 20 feet (4) 7th - 65 from the fairway, significant upslope and hit it a bit hard, ran long left against the collar. Tried to blade a PW, but it got under a bit so didn't advance it anything like far enough. Made a good two putt from there (4) 11th - 63 from the fairway, hit a squirrelly pitch on the green and two putts (3) 12th - 75 from the semi-rough, caught it a bit clean and it wound up on the back edge. Putting down a tier and it ran 8 feet past (that was actually a really good putt and couldn't have done any better I don't think) and missed that (4) 13th - 55 from the fairway, overcorrected and hit the big ball before the small ball. Then made a stellar up and down from 25 yards short to an elevated green with a putter (3) 15th - down in three from a greenside bunker (3) That was it. The other 9 holes I hit it on the green from outside 100 yards. So on those 9 occasions, I took 32 shots to get in the hole. 3.56 average. Terrible. Reason I'm posting this in here is to see if anyone has any suggestions for how to work on my contact with pitch shots. I don't have access to a grass range. Only mats and it's easy off a mat. Partly I think my problem is I've hit it off mats so much this winter that I've lost my judgement on where the ball is versus the ground because of the leeway granted. Open to ideas. I also suspect that under pressure I stand a bit closer to it and then get steep and hit down on it and it puts me in a bad place, but I can't seem to get myself to not do that.
