I guess I should enjoy a 60+ degree day in mid November when you can get them.

DUH!

Plus the Woolly Bear said it was going to be a mild winter. :)

That was an incident of how long does it takes for someone to pull out their cellphone to find out the real answer to that question.

Eight seconds.

Plus the 34 seconds before that spent not remembering that we have the Internet in our pockets.

Tabernac!

Had a light flurry for 15mins last night but it didn't even dust the pavement. Temps are definitely dropping though, icicle on my gazebo yesterday.

Keep that snow in Quebec my friend!!!

On a brighter note, I will be in Hawaii for at least next week to escape this white powder and will be playing Turtle Bay, Royal Hawaiian Club and Kapalua Plantation course.

When I return, hopefully there will be a lot of snow on the slopes for snowboarding.

Plus the Woolly Bear said it was going to be a mild winter. :)

According to folk wisdom, when the brown bands on fall woolly bears are narrow, it means a harsh winter is coming. The wider the brown band, the milder the winter will be. Some towns hold annual woolly worm festivals in the fall, complete with caterpillar races and an official declaration of the woolly worm's prediction for that winter. (http://insects.about.com/od/insectfolklore/f/woolly-bears-winter.htm)

I got out today and walked a quick (2 hrs. 45 min.) 18 holes, because the predicted high temperatures for the next week in Pittsburgh...

Wed-46°

Thu-39°

Fri-39°

Sat-41°

Sun-38°

Mon-35°

Tue-32°

The average high temps around Pittsburgh in November are 60° at the beginning of the month and the high 40°'s at the end. It looks like our wooly bear caterpillars aren't very good weather prognosticators.

16 here now low will be 3 and all the way down to -2 tomorrow. Takes a while to get back into winter I was very cold the little time I was outside. I haven't golfed since 10/10 despite very mild weather before yesterday. Moved and it has consumed all my time and then some. The forecast says it be too cold for golf until maybe the week of Thanksgiving.

So why does a Wooly Bear cross the green? Beats me. I move them to the other side when I see them. I learned that they, like Illinois golfers,  hibernate all winter too, I played yesterday though when we hit 60F. The next ten days say too cold for golf.

Even then, prepare for the greens to play like cartpaths. Now that the ground has gotten a good freeze with yesterday, today, and tomorrow (high of 7 degrees tomorrow with a high of only 37 for the entire week) I imagine everything will be rock hard on the course.

I found an indoor facility not too far that looks like a similar setup to Golf Evolution. I'll have to check it out. There may be hope for my swing this winter after all.

Yeah it's different for sure. Last year I had a decent winter season. Riverdale was actually open on Thanksgiving and I played that day. I remember it being around 30 when I started at 7:30 but it warmed up to around 50 by the time I finished. I've been here my entire life and with the overly rainy summer my gut says winter will be extreme this year. Last year was mild, I don't think I wore a heavy jacket more than 5 times. It was so cold in my office yesterday I never took it off. It was -18 at my house last night and my old blind dog has a tough time getting back into the house without considerable wandering and sniffing. I let them out at 2:30 and had to go out and grab him wearing just basketball shorts, t-shirt and a pair of Vans I use as slippers. Can't remember ever feeling that cold.

Dave :-)
