If anything, the evidence clearly shows that HH doesn't react negatively to the spotlight when it comes to Tiger.

Concur.  I feel using the term "love" when describing HH's feeling about commenting on Tiger is a huge leap that is based on emotion, therefore, is histrionic.  Doesn't shy from the questions, doesn't mind commenting on Tiger?  Sure, evidence supports it.  Loves it?  Um, nah.

I still think he embraces it. I think he embraces keeping himself in the spotlight, and Tiger's about the only way he can do it.

And I don't feel it's histrionics at all. I've seen him talk about Tiger, recently.

I wish he wouldn't. He has no insight into Tiger's current game, and hasn't for years.

Okay, we can split hairs and change "love" to "embraces", like that word better?  Do you listen to him on PGA Tour Radio?  When people call in about Tiger he goes into pretty detailed back stories of his time with Tiger and then eventually gets to the callers question.

If he didn't like speaking about Tiger his responses would be brief and to the point to discourage others from calling in with questions about Tiger or as I stated earlier, he and his producer wouldn't air any questions about Tiger.

Never heard him on PGA radio but I have heard him interviewed often on local Dallas radio and TV, and he actually comes off as very personable and discusses a wide range of golf topics.   Don't recall him bringing up Tiger unprompted except during his book tour when that was the topic.

I still think "embraces" is a reach. It's more accurate to definitively state that he doesn't mind it.  That is clear. Anything more is an assumption and reflects an emotional response to the guy, positive or negative.  In this case, I'd say mostly negative.

While I'm in the camp that believes he loves the spotlight, we haven't really ruled out this possibility:

Don't bother reading any pieces on Woods' new blog post. It really doesn't say much, other then he's planning to come back and he's playing short game games with his son.

This is also an assumption. You don't know, you don't have evidence. I feel this is a bigger leap then others. We are discussing humans, they have emotions, they mind.

  • 4 weeks later...

Tiger Woods has been a clear outlier during his career thus far.... He burned bright and hot hot hot for many years... He had a violent swing that has certainly taken its toll on his body... He knows he can't sustain a swing with much violence at all, with two pretty serious back injuries for a PGA touring pro... He broke the glass ceiling about young players not being ready to win until they have had time to season and choke a few times before breaking through and winning.. And the guys who are at the top now grew up watching that....so they believe that confidence in the primary ingredient of success along with good hard disciplined work.   If you remember for about 10 years he probably won every other tournament he played in.  No one in golf ever has burned that hot in the modern era....  I  don't ever expect him to win again on the regular tour but it wouldn't surprise me if he did..  I enjoyed seeing him play in Greensboro last year and while he at the top of the leaderboard for a couple of days, he did not have that supreme confidence that carried him for so many years.. But the one thing he did that week that he has been able to do through most of his career is putt putt putt and we all know that is what wins tournaments... I hope he can regain his health, balance his life, and give us some great golf... Even if he doesn't return with the fire we are so accustomed to, he gave us something for the first time since Jack and maybe more so for the years he gave it to us...... an absolute dominant Alpha golf pro that pretty knew he would win when he stepped up onto the first tee on Thursday.... and sealed it in the last 3 or 4 holes if it was close!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I love watching the young guys on the tour now jockeying for the #1 spot.... I believe it will be traded around for the next few years at least......

I've also heard that ... when he was with Haney, it would take him 6 months to do something that Hank asked.

It's about trust, and I think he has had issues with trust. It looks as if those issues may continue under Como. Problem is Tiger is running out of time .... he needs to trust. Or his coach needs to act like a Marine DI and just get freakin' tough with him.

being tough on someone who is that hard on himself will not bring good results.... I can tell you that self experience.....

It depends on your approach - you show him with data that what he is doing is not working. Get rid of this ego. And then ask him what he wants to do to solve the issue.

One would think if Tiger was going to show he'd have been there for a few warmup rounds.

Golf has a great stable of young talented golfers, not sure why Golf Channel would want to mess with that to talk about Tiger when there are no indications that he's ready to compete.

He should hide in the woods and scare players when they come looking for their ball!

Because wether Tigs plays or not still moves the needle more than just about anyone else on the tour.

I agree he moves the needle, but right now he doesn't have the same impact as he did last year at this time.  The media will go nuts when he plays in his first tournament but if he's not competitive in a few people will start to lose interest.   This season he hardly gets brought up during a telecast except when someone gets nostalgic about a particular performance or shot he made.

I don't even think the media is going to go nuts anymore. Before whenever he came back, I think there was a sense in the media we would get the old Tiger back and he could challenge Jordan and Rory and they had a wet dream thinking of that happening. Now, I get the sense the media has given up on that dream. They're more focused on the rivalry brewing with Jordan-Rory-Day and Tiger is just a side story...a big side story no doubt, but not the same like it used to be. I think most of us have moved on thinking Tiger has anything left in the tank to compete with the big boys on Tour. It's gotten the point where seeing is believing...until he does it, the focus will be on the Big 3.

The Internet freaked out when he hit a soft 9I in a home simulator.

He still moves the needle.

Somehow…

No doubt he still moves the needle. But theres a different feeling around it this time than past, at least that's the way I sense it. I don't get the feeling of people on hands and knees waiting for a decision on whether he's gonna play the Masters or not like in the past. It's almost as if he plays, that's great....he won't contend but he'll play. In the past it was if he plays, can he contend and maybe win?

    • Day 25: 1/4/2025 Mirror day. I did some good mirror work with a 7 iron. Once again focus here is on pushing the carpet away with my lead leg. Sort of like I'm sitting in a office chair and want to scoot across the room.  Later, I used the putting mirror on the putting mat. Rolling 8 footers down a straight line on the mat.
    • Day 96 - 2025-01-04 Fighting it. Keeping my streak alive, but not by a lot. Got all of seven minutes or so in today. Maybe eight. 😛 Still backswing. Trip next week might be interesting, ha ha. Not gonna worry about it.
    • What does this have to do with the topic?
    • The Top flite Gamer, designed by Callaway, was once an excellent budget ball and won many gold awards from Golf Digest. The original Gamer was a 3 piece ball with a urethane cover. The 2024 version is a 2 piece ball with a cheaper ionomer cover. The top ball below clearly shows the cheaper 2024 2 piece Gamer and the bottom is the 2021 3 piece Gamer.   DSG acquired the brand from Callaway and has systematically destroyed it.
    • Unfortunately, not because of my health. This year, I was dealing with ankylosing spondylitis, which had a huge impact on my performance—and not in a good way. But with my new treatment, I hope to get in better shape
