Surprised Paddy Power didn't mention Notah Begay. I'd put up $100 on none of the above.

I wonder what LaCava thinks about all this... maybe I haven't paid attention, but he doesn't seem to say much.

I think that's why Tiger likes him...

As for Butch, I'm all for it but don't see it ever happening....then again, I didn't think Lebron would ever go back to Cleveland.

At this point, does he really need a coach?  I would rather see him just get a video assistant to film his range sessions.

The problem is, I don't know if Tiger knows what to look for on the video. He might see something, but it might not be anything he needs to worry about.

I doubt  Butch would even accept him back. From what read, Butch's son said his dad was going to retire soon, until Ricky got to talking to him and helped rejuvenate his passion for teaching golf again. I don't think Butch wants that drama this late in his career.

He should sign up with Evolvr.

Send him up to Erie, PA! :-D

Chuck Cook is the only one on the list that's a possibility but it's not a strong one.

I don't know him or what he knows, but I think pros are better off with a coach that can tell them do this do that, and let them do the thinking.

Woods hires... Chamblee and Nobilio They bicker and fight and Woods gets nothing done, in frustration, goes on to hire... Ghost of Ben Hogan Woooo..... The ... secret... is ... in ... the ... dirt ... Wooooo. Ghost of Ben Hogan dispels all the theories people thought he believed in. Golf forums impode on themselves. Woods fires him in frustration, goes on to hire... Anonymous Whatever the press does, can't identify the guy, Woods wins 3 majors, can't break JN's record, press loses interest in anonymous, no one ever figures out who he is, goes on to be one of the great mysteries along with who killed Kennedy, where's Jimmy Hoffa.

This is not a surprise. I now wonder who Woody's next victim will be .

Yeah, look at how working with Tiger has victimized Harmon, Haney, and Foley.  They went from household names to unknowns.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Pretty bad decision in my opinion.  Foley's other students have the best swings on tour right now and I think the only thing holding Tiger back from being on par with Rose or Mahan was his injuries

Right?! I mean guys are selling DVDs and books because of Tiger. And @2rakez Another thing Tiger has in common with other Foley students is lower back injuries.

Who knows but maybe Foley had something to do with this as well.  Maybe he told Tiger he is going to bow out to take some pressure off both of them and allow him to focus more time with his other students.  He already got the fame that goes with teaching Tiger so he can now move on to other things.  Tiger has a host of his own issues he needs to fix far outside anything Foley brought to the table or other instructors can provide.

    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
