Was fit for a driver today, focused on good alignment and timing during the process. I think that would count toward practice.

I'm in for May.

Today I focused on short game:

* Half hour: Did up-and-down drills, using 8i and LW.

* 15 minutes: practiced putting

* Half hour: Gauged distance of partial wedges using rangefinder; emphasized hip rotation, problems last season with too much arms in partials.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Worked on my putting ... especially with aim point ... I have a putting green in my back yard and its cool just to practice holding up my fingers on the slope that I do have, and watch how close it comes to the hole. I have a two tier green and I try every angle I can think of ... Also worked on key 1 and 2 off the hitting matt ... been working hard at NOT letting my hips go back in order to go forward on the down swing ... its a hard habit for me to break!

5 minutes on the mirror. Steady head and trying to "feel" what a good position at the top based on the mirror "feels" like to me. What muscles are flexed or stretched..etc.

Worked on keeping clubface more open throughout swing. Really feel this in my left wrist, which feels cupped. Very uncomfortable at the moment but I absolutely have to start every ball I hit to the right of the target. Worked on this for almost an hour.

Practiced outdoors for about 45 minutes today. For at least 5 minutes I worked on loading #3 less (rotation of the lead arm) on the takeaway, hit it well.

15 minutes outside full swing practice on the driving range. 3 wood and 6 iron. Worked on slowing down the back swing and making a full turn from A2 to A4. Very good contact and ball flight, but pulled a few.

5 minutes of mirror work this morning. Checking position at top of backswing. Making sure right elbow stays in front of seam. This is HARD!!! Can't seem to find a feel that works good.

5 minutes (really about 15-20)

Indoors,

Chipping into a box about 12 feet away and also (with ball)

"swing backs" (working on take away and pause at the top) - Helps me feel the top of my swing.  (no ball)

"back and throughs" - kind of a brush the grass type swing - helps me with transition and tempo. (no ball)

This will be a fairly redundant post for me:

Worked on A1 to A2 (takeaway) with my new grip to ensure flat wrist at A4 in front of my 'mirror'. From A1 to A2 feeling is 1. a slight body turn + 2. with a slight right wrist hinge. Need both. Tendency to do more of one or the other - i.e., push hook or push slice. Need to stay in the middle.

Mirror checks: At A2 club head low to the ground (ensures body has turned a bit) + entire club including shaft should be still visible (ensures right wrist has also started to hinge). At A4  - ensure no huge cupping and shaft plane pointing slightly above the ball. I follow the club with my eyes in this drill for a few minutes and then repeat the drill for a few mins. by just keeping the eyes on the ball and ensure the positions at A2 and A4 - going with feel alone in moving the club.

Flat wrist at A4 is my overall priority piece. The above drill is actually lot simpler than it may sound to some.

With the driver today. Only a few mins this morning before I jump in the shower while my son raps his fingers away on the piano to the tunes of 'Best Friends' and 'Gorilla in the tree'...

EDIT: This did happen this Saturday morning of May 2nd a few mins ago. I demand credit for day 2!! :-D

-------- Day 1 Cutoff! -------

Just for future record-keeping.

I'll get my five minutes in today before or after my lesson, but I will note that you cannot pre-declare your practice sessions. I will post later today with details on what I did, and that will count as my post. I just didn't want to have a post where I said "day 1 cutoff" and nothing else. :)

This is nice! Unfortunately I was late but I did practise something yesterday. My 5 minutes of today ate already done. I wake up early and hit a few putts. With my putt I try to keep the head square thru impact cause I tend to close it by turning my hands... exactly as I do with my iron swing. :(

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
