Daly is the only two time major winner from the U.S. or U.K. to not play in the Ryder Cup. Too bad he was never picked, I figure that would be a good format for him because the occasional blowup hole isn't so punitive in match play.

John Daly has a penchant for quitting when the going gets tough.  He has too much baggage to ever make any conversation concerning captaincy of either the Ryder or America Cup.  His is certainly an interesting story but I have to think most PGA Tour players would not have a lot of faith in his ability to get the job done.

America, having gone with Corey Pavin and Davis Love already, and then then having gone back to Tom Watson, has kind of already admitted that it's going break the old tradition of a captain being in his late 40s and having won at least one major.

Justin Leonard? David Toms? Rich Beem? Has anyone even got Shaun Micheel's number?

The, er, elephant in the room would be making Tiger captain, but I can't see that happening. Ever. Maybe they just hand it to Phil now, and make him captain for the next decade.

Think about it.  We haven't been doing that well with anyone else, how about a real paradigm shift?

I'm not averse to going outside the box, but not with Daly.

How about Phil?  Maybe the first playing captain in a long time.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Guaranteed you would see Pat Perez as a captain's pick, and Darius Rucker as Asst. Captain.

Bring it on boys, what do we have to lose !?!?

Why not? It's not like the conventional choices have done all that well in the past.

How awesome would it be with LoudMouth Golf as the clothing sponsor, and Diet Coke & Marlboro as corporate sponsors.

This makes a great trivia question. Thanks, man.

I remember this same topic a while back on here, and I replied "Why Not". Give the guy a shot at it. He's still a good draw for the fans, which would be a good for pro golf. Plus, I want to hear Mickelson piss and moan some more, and Daily would care less.

There is no way that Tiger will not be a Rider Cup captain if he so desires. If he declined, there would be a huge hue and cry of his ingratitude and indifference. But once Phil gets his chance, it wil be up to Tiger .

Daly becoming Ryder Cup captain happens right after Trump becomes POTUS.  The golf world isn't ready for Daly as captain though it would probably be entertaining.  If  it didn't go well for the US team I could see Daly punching Poulter in the face.

when i first heard about this, i kind of thought this was one of those rumor mill idea's that someone threw out there to keep John Daly in the new's......

but when i thought about it,,, could the outcome of him being the Ryder Cup Captain produce a worse outcome than the last few years???

John Daly is the captain the Americans need, stick him in with Phil as his sidekick and the Americans will wipe the floor with the Europeans.

And who the **** uses a word like paradigm on a golf forum??

People who know what it means?  Or how to spell it? :smartass:

It conveys the precise meaning I was projecting for Daly's potential as captain.

On the above evidence (and being a brit) i think Daly would be the perfect US captain....now leest sit back and watch that statement come back and bite me on the bum! ;-)

    • Day 172: mirror work for a while during SNF. Working on cleaning up the early backswing stuff. Definitely seeing the improvements I’m looking for.
    • @jxdama: Same dumb schtick since joining. Yup. Also, it's a par-73.
    • Day 97 - 2025-01-05 Showed up to something that absolutely floored me, and then was busy right through to 9:00. So, I got 5:00 in at night, at home, before bed. My rib cage hurts from a cough (ha ha, but also, f***), and I think I have a mild ear infection in my right ear. Things are just f***ing great.
    • OMG Jerry Barber shot -20 back in 1960! Let's go back and time and bitch about how easy it is to play golf. My goodness, Calvin Pete shot a -21 in 1986! Wait a second, David Duval shot -26 back in 1999! Hold up, Ernie Els shot a -31 back in 2003!!!!  (all scores at The Sentry, it is a very easy golf course for PGA Tour players).  The concept that golf in the past is this protecting par or what not is just romanticized BS. Golfer's have been tearing apart golf courses for decades. Let's have a sense of perspective to base our opinions, ok?
    • I wont  comment further except to say maybe we  can get a  -40 winner soon on these tests  of golf  skill     Hideki Matsuyama runs away with The Sentry, breaks scoring record to open new PGA Tour season Hideki Matsuyama picked up his 11th PGA career win on Sunday afternoon in Hawaii.
