Next thread - Does DLIII have a better chance of winning majors in 2016 than Jordan Spieth (because a week or two is the best predictor of the next year or two)

Good lord. And I thought the "Lydia Ko's Downfall" thread was sensationally premature.

As I said when the hype first started (maybe not on this forum) -

I think the Golf Media is too quick to ascribe a new "chosen one". Pretty much every year, there's an otherwise decent player that goes on a tear, be it for 1/2 year or even longer. Remember Brandt and Scott? Those guys were on fire. As soon as someone gets on a hot "streak", the media is there and the hype train begins. The "new face of golf" or something to that effect.

I think with Spieth, the smart choice is to wait and see. Yes, what he did was remarkable especially given his age, but it's a very limited snapshot of his entire career. What we can say beyond a shadow of a doubt is that he is a great golfer. How much he can accomplish remains to be seen. Same with Day. The "big three" talk is utter ****. The guy's on a hot streak, for now.

Maybe not the 60's but at least par in one of the rounds and making the cut considering his performance this year. It would be frustrating to have another David Duval again...

It's only been 3 rounds! :-)

Even if he misses the cut this week it doesn't really mean much. I bet he'll finish strong.

Maybe you missed the majors this year, but he went 1st, 1st, 4th and 2nd. The media put him up on a pedestal because he kinda earned it. Last I checked Scott and Sneds have done nothing even remotely close to what this kid did this year. People just need to relax. He is having a couple rough tourneys. Kid is probably worn out a bit. I'd be willing to bet after this two week break he'll finish the season strong. And if he doesn't, oh well. He's still the odds on favorite to win at Augusta next year. You'd be crazy to pick against him.

Is Spieth done? I am starting to wonder about his game atm. Seems like he can't buy a round in the 60's all of a sudden. I am starting to think he is done for the season...

Not sure which you're asking? Yes, he might be done for the year. No, it's not the end of his era. No, he has not gone from hero to zero. Everyone has slumps, this is golf, after all?

We've had guys come out and win two majors in a single year before. I'm really advocating the same point you are - just wait and see. Don't make grand, sweeping generalizations after (relatively) short periods of time.

If by finishing strong you mean birdieing the last hole on a day over par again without a single bird... Yes he finished strong...

You can tell by his demeanor on the course he's mentally fatigued.  He's frustrated, irritable and doesn't appear to be enjoying his time on the course.  It's been a long season for him, contending in all 4 majors, winning 2 and the obligations that go along with it probably have caught up with him.

Jordan and his caddie need to take a vacation, at least a week of no golf and just relax.  I have no doubt he'll be back in contention after a break.

Hindsight dictates that he would have been better off taking the first two tournaments off...unless he is out of the FedEx now... I didn't look to see where he sits.

He is young, has hit the wall.

The Majors are over, and that is a big mental takedown when he was going for the Grand Slam only 6 weeks ago. The last major was usually the end of the season. I'm not too surprised he hit the wall, thought it would occur at the British.

Younger guys tend to hit the wall, and then overcome it. It's a process, and golf is ... hard.

Justin Rose also missed the cut... nice swing.

    • I don't know… The TaylorMade Tiger Woods grinds were decent. I like narrow soles with a lot of bounce (lots of camber) and good heel/toe relief.
    • Day 33 (3 Jun 24) - In between working on my bass guitar and its wiring issues, I was able to take the putter and roll some putts on the carpet in the shop.  Spent time with the lead arm as I usually putt with it tucked close  and then doing the lead arm chicken wing.  Interesting how the feel and pace is different.  Had seen a fellow golfer using it last week when we were playing.  Overall it was good to do an easy day of putting for pace and overall distance control from 10' in.
    • Gotcha. Good to know. I'll have to test them.Any other specific models/grinds from major OEMs (not Edel) that you like and/or have a good blend of narrow sole but enough bounce? I said Non Edel just so I'd be able to test in person/have a variety of buying options

    • Day 81  some technique work a little earlier, looking at grip and weight shift. Later on did some short game practice within 100 yards on the skytrak. It froze during a wedge matrix which was not ideal so i switched to target practice. Need to do this more often to get better at these partial wedges but should also probably do a short game lesson as my launch was quite high. Maybe it will help my full swing too
