What'd You Shoot Today?

I shot the best 105 that anyone has ever shot.  Let me explain.

I've been working on key 1 A LOT.  And my head has gotten much more steady.  Last month on 2 difficult courses I shot a 91 and 93 which for me is very good.

In my last lesson we started to move on to getting my weight forward, and we started by looking at video that had me really on my front foot even at the top of the swing.  So we corrected that and I worked a few times this week on that.

And the results were VERY noticeable.  My driver distance increased this round from 220 if i really connected (rarely) to 260 average this round.  All of my clubs were longer.

And that is why I shot a 105.  1 sample hole will give you the idea: 385 yard par four.  I drive it and my GPS says I have 123 yards to the front of the green.  Normally that is a 9 iron for me, but in an attempt to adjust to the distance I play PW.  I still hit it over the green by about 10 yards.  Ended up being about 145 yards with my pitching wedge.

That happened all day long to me.  I never once came up short today, and only once did I judge my irons correctly.  I was constantly hitting over.  I hit long on a layup into a creek. I hit over greens, I hit long into bunkers.

It was awesome and I can't wait for my next round so I can play used to everything going so much further.

Best 105 ever.

Walked the front 9 today right before the course closed (started around 6:00, finished right at 7:30 as the sun was setting). It was beautiful today! Got sprinkled on for about 45 seconds then it was gone lol. I shot an HONEST 45 today (I have a hard time recording honest scores lol, but I'm promising myself to record only honest scores because what's the point in lying? just sets myself up for embarrassment). Anyways, I had a ton of trouble shots today that I believe I played very well, got me up and down a few times from them to boot. I had one go in the water on a hard dogleg left around water - hit my BEST drive there... then chunked my 9i right into the water >_<. I took my legal drop with the penalty stroke and had my only triple bogey of the round. Still managed to shoot a 45 which is GREAT for me. No birdies today but got up and down 4 times which is fantastic for me for 9 holes!

If you can't tell, I'm quite excited :)

Had a weird round today. Ballstriking was awful, (3GIR, 4 fairways) Yet I managed to score alright at +13 (3 over my HCP on the course)

Putter was on fire, what I didn't make touched the cup or was right on the line. Only once or twice I had a second putt outside 4 feet.

Actually quite pleased with the result as it (in my eyes) shows that I can score well low if I just get my game going ;) (easy to say ;) )

79 at Treesdale Country Club. My home course. I vary the tees, with the forward men's tees being good for hitting long irons, the normal men's tees and the back tees. There are also hybrids of all those tees. I played the tips and I have never broken 80 before from anything other than the forward men's tees (6100). The tips are 7100. I have had a lot of 81s, 82s and shot an 80 on Thursday. But I always let it slip away at the end. Today was a breakthrough shooting 79 from the back tees and I just missed my putt for 78. I hope it's a breakthrough to shoot lower. I've worked my butt off on golf this year.

The Home Course. Sunday, September 6, 2015. 95. 71.8/124

64% fairway accuracy, 39% GIR. We had a wee bit 'o breeze. A few approach shots got hung up and were a little short despite clubbing up. The third hole killed my front nine with a shanked gap wedge that went up into the tall cabbage followed by a lob wedge that went well over the green and onto the next tee due to additional adrenaline trying to avoid the bunker with the 8 foot wall, finally onto the green and a three putt for a quad. Back 9? I ran out of gas on 18, and duck hooked my drive into a fairway bunker and ended up with a triple.

Positive highlights. Came back from the mess on 3 with two bogeys and two pars. We got the big warning about 7 about the water hazard so I hit my 4 iron off the tee 214 yds dead straight and went past the end of the fairway into some short rough leaving a GW over the pond onto the green for par.

Back 9: 11th, my approach shot went a bit right of the green and there was a steep roll off on the green which made the lob shot really tough. Too far, and I'd have a super long putt coming back with that lip just beyond the hole. Too short and it would roll right back down. 30 yds. This one could have been on TV. Landed just at the right point on the lip with enough momentum to carry it over and roll next to the hole leaving a five footer. The rest were boring pars, boring bogeys, then mental and physical fatigue set in with a four putt on 17 after a GIR - that was brutal.

My short game sucks.

75 for the second time this year.  rather short course (tips are 6200 only) with a varied layout.  Real chance for a personal best, but not this time leaving that landmark short by a couple strokes again.  The very short game was ridiculously good (for me), my typical glitchy leave-it-short mindset was absent, and I was really enjoying the feel of just walking up to these chips and pitches and just hitting them - hit the pin or the hole at least 4 shots.  Still searching a bit for better approach game.  Driving still going good.

Windy, and ridiculously hot and humid too.  Players were nice to me - I started off with a 5 some, then a walking solo, and then a 4-some just seeing me behind them and them all offering to let me play through before I even came close.  Smiles and courtesies.  I think this round was done in 2 and quarter hours or so.  Certainly less than 3.  The high winds were a huge help on a couple key holes.

My 4H was malfunctioning and hitting ridiculously long.  after 4 different shots, it was put away.  Fun really, but not if I WANT to hit greens.

#7 was weird - I hit a huge drive right which left 150 to the green (normally I'm hitting 5i after pulling a drive).  I'm into the wind so I upped one club to 7i and proceeded to pull it.  It hit the cart path about flag high and bounced 7 TIMES before it landed off.  Left me with a lob of about 40 yards over a tree nearly half that high.  lesson - don't pull the approach shot.  Played a few holes (due to a different drive line) than I've ever done, and it really opened my eyes on better ways to play this course too.  just a fun and productive day if not for the weather

This was definitely the day I should have broken 80 this season. Three straight doubles in the middle of the front, and a bad double on 18. One ball OB and three 3-putts. I had 7 legit birdie opportunities and only made 2, one a kick-in that was almost a hole-in-one. Shooting darts at pins, but just can't convert.

Very bad front 6, 8 over par. Then followed that up with 4 over par the following 12 holes, 6 pars, one birdie and 5 bogies) And I usually play the back nine worse than the front!

Ball striking was a bust yet again, better than the last round, but still bad.

If I keep playing like this (putting and mental-game) when striking the ball better, I can only believe that I'll improve greatly and quickly.

Shot 79 on a new course last night. Finished the last few holes in the dark so I played safe and relied on my hearing to know where the ball went. I had a blast but I figure that I'll need to get back out there to try to score better on some of the blind holes that threw my off a bit earlier in the round.
