I voted longer, but I had to think about it. If you hit it 285 right now, I could see voting straighter. I hit it a pretty good distance now.

I voted straighter. I'd like to gain some distance, but the biggest thing holding me back is my driving accuracy.

I didn't vote, but I'm not long enough to vote straighter.  I could afford to miss an occasional fairway for the distance, and I'm sure it'd lower my score in the process.

Also, the strange dichotomy.  I hit it straighter now than I did when I hit it shorter.

Longer. A lot easier to figure out how to straighten it out than hit it longer.

Straighter means accuracy... so if we say longer and hit it 285 into woods... I loose a ball and am hitting three from there. If I get straight .... I use the same ball, stay on the fairway.... I am hitting two from the 200 yard driver shot..... pull out my hybrid and put up near or on the green.   Hitting three from there seems like a better choice.

I titled the thread w/a biased view as I'm not long. I realize if you're on the shorter end, you'd want more distance and vice versa. If i had the distance of @billchao or any other TST guys who hit it a good ways I'd probably answer the same way. But on the other hand, I agree w/ @SavvySwede that if you're already long, it's easier to straighten than to get more distance.

Straighter for sure.  Yes, it may well be easier to work on accuracy once you have the distance, but would rather hit from the fairway every time, never lose a ball and have a lower score, than hit it super long and into the boonies

I hit it pretty straight already.  If I could add a few yards without losing too much accuracy, I'd vote longer.

Notice: Almost everyone here should vote "longer."

Why?

Well, here's a nice big thread about it:

@saevel25 hits it far enough that he's one of the few who can vote "straighter." If you can occasionally reach a par-five by hitting two six-irons, you too can vote "straighter."

I don't hit the ball tour long. Like I said, I'd love to hit the ball longer, but my shot zone is so wide with the driver that hitting it farther isn't going to do jack to help my game.

If it's not at the sacrifice of distance I'd rather hit it straighter at my home course, at a course that's wide open I'd prefer distance.  My best rounds this season at the home course were last week when my driver never left the bag.

The risk of penalties is too great due to lost balls and OB in the fall.  I'd rather be a few yards shorter in the fairway that searching under leaves in the woods.

    • As a supporter of the European team even though I chose to live in the US, this is kind of good news. I'm pretty close to Bethpage, but won't be going at these prices. Neither will the crazy drunk NY sports fans who would have made this a very difficult place to play as a Euro. The tickets will go to the city types who are entertaining clients and don't care about the money. Many of them are going to sit there and watch, not get all raucous. I am not dumb enough to believe that this is going to be like a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park for the Euros, but I think it will be significantly more subdued as a result of the prices. Even at $250 I would probably have been watching on the TV anyway so no real skin in the game.
