Yesterday's Wall St. Journal reported that "Chipotle Faces New Outbreak"----in 3 states NOT included in October's HUGE outbreak.  My son and his friends USED to go there all the time after golf or whatever. NO MORE!!

We in Washington/Oregon know this really well. The one by my house was closed one day before the outbreak was announced and I was planning to go to lunch there that day.

I've gone much, much more often since the outbreak. Short lines and bigger portions because of lighter traffic. The odds of anything happening to you are so slim, Chipotle is a market inefficiency right now. I'm Moneyballing lunch!

I read some where where most, if not all Chipolte stores were going to close in early 2016. If true, a lot stray cats and dogs can now rest easier.

Really? It may be taking a beating on the market and bottom line, but it's not closing all its stores.

Never said I believed it, just that read it some where. Fact is I don't believe very much that I read on the web anymore no matter the source. In this case, they could close them all down, as I have never been in one of their stores.

I imagine most folks on here a not familiar with what happened to "Whatta Burger" when they got caught using horse meat. They closed about 90% of their store over that issue. I expect it will be about the same with Chipolte.

For your 19th hole . .go to a bar!  You can't eat a chicken and black bean burrito bowl and call it a "19th hole" . .even if you do get sick.

Agreed. I did the same after Jack In The Box had ecoli. A few days later it was the  safest place to eat.

We have a lovely little bar at my home club, good beers on tap, and an excellent burger.  I've got no reason to go anywhere else for my 19th hole.  If I did, tho, I probably wouldn't be going to a big-box restaurant, I'd try to find a locally owned bar and grill.

Chipolte should identify the product and change the supplier.  Problem solved.

That seems to be the problem, they use locally sourced products at all of their stores so I'm not sure how many suppliers in common each store has. One issue was traced to tomatoes from a regional supplier, but they've not been able to trace anything else to a specific supplier. It's kind of ironic and unfortunate, their organic and local focus seems to be preventing them from fixing the problem quickly.

From the VOX article

But Chipotle uses fresh ingredients sourced from a wide variety of local suppliers that may not have the capacity for stringent quality controls.

Wow! Does this mean they can't find the source because there is NO SINGLE SOURCE? Perhaps these events have been happening in the past and just now the trace back to Chipotle was discovered.

If I ran Chipotle I'd be making friends with the suppliers that serve Yum brands, McDonalds etc and start working on a traditional distribution model and drop the local concept.

Agreed. I always look forward to the place AT THE COURSE. Its a drag to all have to drive off somewhere.

This is fascinating because it seems to push the need for an industrial food model. They've come out publicly against GMOs and are the only restaurant chain to do so. They use organic grown produce. They're circumventing Monsanto Corporation which owns all of the patents on GMOs and runs big agriculture in this country. What did people do before the industrial food model of Monsanto existed? I call bulls***.

I think if they were to give in and go with produce supplied by farmers under the Monsanto banner the entire problem would go away. I think they're being sabotaged.

I also think the most likely culprit is the cilantro.

Sabotaged by who? I doubt Monsanto loses sleep about Chipotle.

I think as one article stated their weakness is their strength. It's easier to control quality at one central location then at hundreds around the country.
