So, who's in better shape: the players who didn't make it out today who are looking at 36 holes tomorrow, or the players who did make it out today, will finish their rounds in the morning, and may be playing 36 holes on Saturday?

I think the guys who didn't play at all are at a disadvantage. In most tournaments I would consider it an advantage, but I think a U.S. Open set-up wears them down more mentally.

Without question the guys who haven't teed off yet. They get this golf course about 5xΒ softer than it was today and don't have to deal with the wind the players today had. The wind today and still pretty hard teens kept this course from being had. With no wind tomorrow and very soft greens, I think the guys that are yet to tee off can get a 64 or 65 providing they hit it straight off the tee. This now becomes a tournament of hitting fairways. Do that and you can stick some shots.

It's sad we are not gonna get the true Oakmont :(

Agree. Β The morning wave got screwed. Β In addition to all you cited, the fact that they had to stop and start twice made it difficult to get into a rhythm. Β That alone had to take a toll.

I agree, today they had some softer greens to hit into, as the weekend progresses it's going to get tougher, not easier. Β 36 holes at Oakmont is going to be painful for many of these guys. Β

You mean "those lips, those implants, that tan ..." if that is a natural tan from the sun, can you say leather and melted lips?

Agreed.Β  While the course may play a bit "easier" due to softer greens, it's still Oakmont.Β  36 holes in one day is an absolute grind on a course like this, under pressure like this.

Yeah, but the course tomorrow is gonna be so extremely soft. It was still pretty hard today, even with the rain this morning, and the wind was blowing. But the storm they got this afternoon completely drenched that place. We only got about a quarter inch here this morning, but we got easily at least 2 inches of rain this afternoon. I think tomorrow is gonna be like the 2nd round of Bethapge in 2009 where the afternoon wave played Friday morning and got a course that had absolutely no roll to it and guys were able to stick some shots. I truly pray I'm wrong on this, but I think you're gonna see a lot of rounds in the 60s tomorrow. The only issue could be fatigue come the end of the day for the more out of shape players (i.e. Colt Knost).

It'll get harder over the weekend, but the USGA has already said they received so much rain this afternoon that they won't be able to get it back to the speed they had yesterday.

I don't know anything about the drainage on the course, but I'd expect they will dry it out and put fans on the greens that don't drain well. Β 2" is a lot of rain, guess we'll see tomorrow what affect it had. Β

Poor Colt. He's gonna need a few beers after playing 36 tomorrow.

Saw this guy on the course today named Andrew Johnston. He is a big boy. Love his beard and he's always smiling. Reminds me a little of Shane Lowry. Also came away really impresseed with Spieth, DeChambeau and ZJ today. Three classy guys. Came over and talked to the fans while they were waiting and cracked some jokes. ZJ's caddy was cracking some, too. Seemed like a cool guy. I know some people here don't like Spieth for whatever reason, but the guy's pretty classy. Got a good sense of humor, as does Bryson, who I really wasn't a fan of until today.

It does help that it's been a bit dry here for the past few weeks...we really haven't had much rain overall this month.

The weather forecast is changing hourly - welcome to summer in Pittsburgh!

Yeah I think by Saturday afternoon it'll have some of its teeth back, but I think tomorrow morning with no wind and sunny skies, players will try and throw darts.Β Just hit the fairway.

The good news is the rain is likely over and sun rises at 6 am and sets close to 9pm. So they should be back on track by Β the end of round 3. Just gonna be a bit messy until the final tee time Satursday which will prolly be a threesome around 4 or 5 pm.
