Injury bad enough that I couldn't play, not much else do I really fear.

dido - considering that golf is the only thing I do for me, it would suck to lose it

Totally forgot about getting seriously hurt from a wayward ball. Lots of people, IME, not providing warning with a fore these days.

And 200 year old hungry alligators.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Launching a solid drive off a short Par 5, and then smacking a super 4W that hits a greenside sprinkler head and ricochets OB. (And, I lose the ball!)

S-word has to be at the top of my list. had it happen once, and it's always in the back of my mind.

second would be knocking a ball through a window of a house at my local track.

not too worried about injuries, though i've sprained an ankle and elbow (different rounds) and been hit by a ball at close range. flukes....i think.

I hit an occasional shank (there,  typed it) and I don't worry about them.  As @mvmac told me, after seeing me hit a full hosel-rocket, a shank is only a fraction of an inch from perfect contact.

Without question getting stuck behind a pack of old (slow) people.

Would it be better if they were a pack of young (slow) people? Slow is slow.

This is OT but is there some kind of protocol for hole in one libations? Like miller lite only? Dudes were ordering manhattans with makers mark and shit...

I had one a few years ago, I only bought drinks for the other 3 guys in my group. I don't care, I'm not buying drinks for a bunch of already lit strangers in the clubhouse.

Oh, and Lyme disease.

Generally, yes.

I'm no fan of young people playing slow either but old people can't seem to speed up even if they want to.  Plus, old people seem either oblivious or arrogant is their slow play, like they're entitled to it.  Younger people seem to play slow because they think they're better than they really are.

Anyway, I'm happy to clarify for you:  #1 fear--  Old slow players, #2 fear--  young slow players.

I almost holed out off the tee on a par 3 -- for par.  Yes, I kind of live in fear that I will never have a HIO, but will hole out my par attempt after re-teeing following a calamity off the tee.

I've also done that. It was weird to be sort of relieved that a shot DIDN'T go in (stopped about 18" short).

Yup.  Our 17th hole is 190 downhill.  A couple of months ago I sh@nked one right into the lake next to the green.  I re-teed and left it on the lip.  And was, like you, strangely relieved.

Actually, I thought there were only 9. (bad shots)

But 10-13 for me might be;

10. Getting hit with a golf ball, in the head,  while standing in the middle of the fairway. In plain sight of the hitter.

 11. Might be missing a 1 foot putt, robbing myself of  a 72.

12. Getting out played, by a 12 year old young lady, who would later go on to LPGA stardom.

13. Being struck by lightening.

I think it's fair that the guy buying a round specifies the type of beverage and the number. I've never heard the tradition implying you have to pay for everyone's drinks for the rest of the day.

All you guys who complain about slow old people - you'll be one of them some day. Remember that.

1 foot putt for a 72? The people I play with would say "that's good. Pick it up."

There is one hole I've hit a perfect 4H on that landed in exactly the right spot to bound up onto the center of the green. It had the perfect speed to make it. It hit a sprinkler head and ricocheted off to the left, down a steep hill into the woods. Instead of a birdie... I ended up with an 8.

This. Especially when there is no one in front and they are oblivious about letting your group through.
