No, I wouldn't.

Politics plays an important part in my life and there are a zillion other golf courses I can play.

Yep. Paid to play Turnberry a couple of summers back and would do it again in a heartbeat. Stunning course and doesn't matter whose name is on it.

That said, I had to work seriously hard to find a putter cover from the pre-Trump days!

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

What's in the bag: Callaway X2 Hot Driver, Titleist 915F 3 wood, X2 Hot 3 Hybrid, 3, 5-AW Apex Pro irons, 54*, 58* Cleveland RTX, Odyssey Versa 1 Putter

I remember when there was a move to boycott Chic-Fil-A, and noted liberal John Stewart went on his show and said, paraphrasing, "Boycott?   Are you crazy?  These are delicious chicken sandwiches."

I think the whole country has gone off the deep end with the politically inspired boycotts.

So, heck yes, I would play one of his courses, whether I like him or not.

If you don't like the guy, register to vote and vote.  < (I think that is a non-partisan statement.  I'm trying to remain non-partisan here.  )

Yeah i would. Just because i dont like the guy that owns them doesnt mean it should stop me enjoying a round. Unless said owner was stood behind me on every tee :-D

He's one of two people i wouldnt want to be stuck in a lift with, the other being the  guy off the Go Compare adverts!

What does one thing have to do with another?

Would you play a Golf course owned by Tiger Woods?

What does someone's politics have to do with what course you play? If the course is nice, what does it matter?

The title of thread makes that impossible. He's the President.

Rules of the forum make is necessary. Try to just comment on the courses without bringing politics in. I know it can be tempting, but we are really trying to keep everything on topic with no politics.

I understand. I'm new here but read through the whole thread and the whole thing is a political commentary to a degree. Some people are outright saying NO WAY!! Don't want politics? Don't make a thread with the President's name in it.

When the thread was started, they/we were more lenient with discussions drifting into political territory.  It reached a point, however, where it was decided to shut down political talk.  It's not very productive and has little to do with golf except that the President owns a bunch of courses.

Ahhhh, I see. That makes more sense. Apologies. I'm new. Had no idea. Thank you for the explanation. Appreciated.

My answer has not changed. I would play on his properties. I have played on his properties. Nice courses.

Heck, I even eat in his restaurants sometimes. Play in his casinos. I have friends who work for him.

Not a big deal.

No worries. We don't like to lock threads, so we let this one stay. It has been ok.

Even more than discussions about Tiger's future, political discussions have had the potential to devolve into pretty nasty stuff.  I think its been appropriate to say, as @RFKFREAK said earlier, that politics are the reason he wouldn't play these courses, as long as we don't get into discussing the politics themselves.  As for me, I wouldn't specifically avoid these courses, but they seem in my view to be relatively overpriced.  That's a marketing decision made to attract a certain group of golfers (or perhaps to exclude a different group), rather than a political one.  On the other hand, if one of my buddies plans a Scotland venture that includes Turnberry or his Aberdeen course, I'm not going to stay home for that specific reason.

Trump's Ferry Point is on my bucket list for my next trip to NY. Nicklaus design, fabulous views, public access, close to Manhattan - why not. Maybe some FBI types lingering in the shadows, what fun.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I recently had a half day free so visited Trump Turnberry on the west coast of Scotland. The course is fabulous by all accounts with an amazing history. I walked to the lighthouse for a coffee (awful) and cake (awfuller) that cost 7 pounds. The staff were all mostly friendly and helpful except the starter who told me I couldn’t walk out to the lighthouse via the old track and had to take a long detour. Didn’t worry me too much but turns out what he said was nonsense; Scotland has a right to roam law.

The clubhouse is gauche: full of marble, gold, glass and brightly lit. According to friends that were regular visitors the whole place has been trumped. The proshop was eye-wateringly expensive.

I posted a photo of my visit on FB and immediately got shit from friends who assumed I’d played there. Had to assure them I did no such thing.

I’d play here but only after exhausting all other local possibilities. And I’d keep it secret.

(I couldn’t find a Time magazine with the fake Trump front cover on display, plenty of other Trumpesque tooting his own horn)

    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
