Brandon Marshall (Denver Broncos) decided to show support for CK and took a knee during the National Anthem.  It could have been an expensive knee given Air Academy Federal Credit Union terminated their endorsement deal with Marshal due to his decision to kneel.

There's also word the entire Seattle Seahawks team will take a knee during the National Anthem before their game.

I'm not sure how much the endorsement deal is, but he just signed a 32M contract with a 10M signing bonus.  So, he's living pretty large without that unknown credit union :)

For the record, during numerous televised football games, I neither stood nor removed my cap.
I sat on the couch drinking a beer!

Does that make me unpatriotic?

I didn't watch but I heard that they said they would only do it if everyone did it and not everyone agreed with it so they didn't do anything? I wish this whole thing would just fade away. It wasn't that big a deal to begin with and the whole reasoning behind how it started is still suspect to me.

Would be great if they pranked a couple of guys with this.  "Yeah, we are all going to do it!"  and then like one guy does it because he wasn't in on the joke...

I have been thinking about this, not constantly, for a while and I have come to the conclusion that taking a knee during the National Anthem is stupid.  Sports and politics shouldn't mix.  How can you make a "serious social statement" right before you take the field to play a frivolous game?

As far as "using the platform" . it's really hijacking the platform.  He can say whatever he wants in interviews.  He can purchase tv commercials. He can publicly support activism.  He can go on talk shows, etc.  All that off the field.  Standing for the national anthem doesn't mean you have to agree with everything about America.  Just the fact that he can do all those things I just mentioned seems reason enough to stand for the anthem.

As with most athletes, I couldn't care less what Kaepernick thinks or says (except about sports).  I say - let him put his money where is mouth (err . knee) is . . .go join the CFL.  Otherwise, keep your politics off the field.  By all means - feel free to work to make America a better place -  at the risk of repeating myself, that's what makes this country great.  But we can't have every athlete using every moment on camera to "make a statement". - nobody paid to hear your message - they paid to see you play ball.

I also have thought about it and blame the networks and media.  I noticed yesterday during the Jets and Giants games the networks intentionally scanned the sidelines during the National Anthem looking for  players that were protesting.  If the networks didn't give airtime to these "protesters" they would lose any power or persuasion they'd have.

How about they spend some of that money they've been so oppressed earning and buy some television ads to further their cause if they believe in it that much.

Beyond boycotting any products these protesters represent I'm done wasting time on them.

This is the dumbest thing people have given shits about in a long time.

My friends boyfriend came over with her over the weekend - No..not aware of anything going on for realizes, wells fargo, or this standing rock thing. But he does know every detail about who's not standing at attention for the national anthem during sporting events....

What an asshat...

Yes, but they would not get the attention that they do if they did those alternate things, hence why it happens.  Unless they called a press conference or did a commercial and said something really provocative or outlandish.  But as there are zero athletes who are bigger than their sport, they wouldn't get the audience that a commerical or press conference would get.

I quite agree though, too much coverage focused on it.  Worthy of some, perhaps not as much as it's gotten.

This falls in the same category as all the movie stars who use their Oscar acceptance speech to highlight their pet issue.

They have a right to do it, but I wish they'd just wear a #$%^ ribbon and leave it at that.

And any sponsorships lost, tv network sanctions, NFL/AMPAS rules, and fan/audience support or flak I'm all for.

Government intervention/laws/regs - no.  Let freedom ring.

Curious what everybody thinks of this.

I support his right to do so.

A couple of things though.

  1) Could he have picked a better way to voice his point that is not a slap in the face to all those that have served and/or died for the flag?

2) If he can't support the US of A, maybe he should become a citizen of a different country?

I agree.  I believe in the individual rights of the individual as long as it doesn't infringe on anyone else's.  He has that right.  BUT I also have the right to call him out and disagree with him, which I do.  There are other ways to proclaim your message however misconstrued it is.  Statistics prove the message is built on a false narrative these days anyway.  Historically, yes, but not now.

During last nights game, while the national anthem played Kapernick & Reid took a knee.
One of the sideline reporters later reported that a few people in the crowd were yelling at Kapernick & Reid " why you kneeling"? and "why dont you stand up"?

So it is unpatriotic to quietly kneel during the anthem, but ok to yell over the anthem to someone you disagree with?

Would those actors make more people aware of their issue by wearing a random color ribbon instead of saying something?  Of course not.

Same with Kaep.  The reason people suggest he should have done something differently is just so it would make them easier to ignore what he has to say.  It would be considerably less effective.
