Great round Tiger. Bogey-free, one fantastic par save from that bush, he's got to be feeling amazing.

Beautiful rhythm all day, I love how he swung it.

Amen!!!!! :-)

Any reason to why? I know Nike is getting out of the equipment business, but I didn't think they'd drop this fast

Basically all the Nike guys changed their equipment right away.

As to why Tiger switched. My guess would be a combo of these three reasons
- He's free to experiment with other stuff out there
- He'll get paid
- There are rumors he and other investors/his group might buy TaylorMade

Hard to imagine anyone not getting a real thrill when he drained the par putt on 16.  I don't know if he is "back" but this is great stuff.

I never rooted for Tiger in his prime...I am rooting for his comeback. That putt and fist pump was probably the most enjoyment I've gotten out of seeing a Tiger putt go in.

So he hasn't grabbed his back or any other signs like that the past two days? If so, that's awesome.

Nope. Nothing.

I still think his walk is a bit stiffer, but… I suppose that's bound to happen. Hell, I probably walk stiffer now than I did 15 years ago.

This will be filed under 'Refusal to co-operate'. If the tear up doesn't continue tomorrow and Sunday we should all know where the blame will lie..

On a different note, what predominant or go to shot shape is he gaming? I just saw a short clip of his 'near ace' on GC which seemed like a mini cut swing (of course I am just guessing on the flight and maybe just a function of the hole demand).

Right. His speed was good and he was fine after hitting shots from weird sidehill lies.

I don't care that it's not a regular event or that the course isn't playing that hard, this was a huge round for Tiger from where he's come from, both health and swing wise (especially with the driver). Not saying "he's back" but this was a big step in the right direction.

Hahahaha - like many here, I'm giddy with excitement over this upcoming year.

I'd like to make a formal motion that @CarlSpackler must go and hide in the meeting room all weekend as previously suggested...anyone second?

Notah Begay said he had dropped some lbs, and wasn't hitting the heavy weights much.

I've said this before, it feels like he gets sick a lot.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
