Haha, this video has everything. The initial setup, a disaster waiting to happen, expecting him to break the ice with his club and create a hole. Then he misses, slips and cracks the ice himself, before finally falling into the water.

Well, he made "CBS This Morning" I'm guessing by now, it's been posted to Facebook, sent with a few emails, translated to multiple languages and tripled the Instagram views.

I'd call it Mission Accomplished.

Water Hazard wins ;)

What's worse is IDT anyone would be able to get out there to rescue him. All I'd be able to do is slide him a tethered ladder or something. . .

Wow, that was some dumb thing to do. If this was real I hope the guy is okay. Can't believe anyone would do something this stupid.

Ditto.

Looks like a Key #1 issue to me. Never going to make contact with the ball when your head is moving that much during the swing...

Ha ha ha - @saevel25 nice job being the first to post this.

I have been known to play golf well into December and occasionally in Jan./Feb.  It is not uncommon for the ponds to be frozen.  With inaccurate golfers doing what we do, it is not unusual to see several golf balls stranded on the ice in the middle of the hazard.  Now and again, a passing thought I have had was to slither out on the pond on my belly (spreads the weight) and knock the balls to the shoreline.  Fortunately I have always laughed off the idea, imagining my explanation for how I happened to end up going though the ice in the middle of the pond.  This video clip has permanently banished any future thoughts about venturing out on the ice with a golf club.

I just like how the ball never moved the whole time.  Even as he fell through, the ball was just chilling there.  But hey, now he can try it lefty!

To be honest, I'm kind of more interested in the rescue video. If he hung on to his club, that would've helped a lot in pulling him out. How long do you have till hypothermia again? I'm sure he's okay, he's young, otherwise you'd hear about it.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

I think putter was the play

The putter would've been the better club choice! He certainly wins the 2016 Darwin Award for Idiot Golfer of the Year

The rescue looks like it would have been pretty straightforward. He had all of his weight on two feet - he should have been able to get out even on an edge without too much trouble.

Then again as a guy who lived near Lake Erie and learned to get into canoes from the water with clothes on, learned to get out of ice with clothes on… and so on.

I went through the ice a few times as a kid. The most important thing is simply not to panic. Assess, give the people on shore time to assess, and get out calmly. Calm is smooth. Smooth is fast. :-)

So how many shots is he taking? Assume one from the tee into the hazard. A penalty shot for grounding his club in the hazard. His actual shot, breaking the ice. Now the ball is in the water and he has to take a drop. So, after he gets out, dries up a bit and warms up, he will be hitting his fifth from outside the hazard. I wouldn't want to be in the group waiting behind him though: that's gonna take a while!
