Unfortunately, there's only hundreds of signers so far. LOL, coverage is shorter than Rahm's backswing - that's a tweet in the timeline.

There are a couple ways to interpret "just show the golf."

I'm assuming they mean less commentary and fewer interviews, i.e., just stop talking.  Fewer commercials?  [Also, is CBS that much worse than NBC and the others, including the Golf Channel?]

When the schedule for 2 p.m. says PGA tour golf, don't give me 5 minutes of reviewing basketball, hockey, football, baseball, etc. highlights"?

Less switching back to an infomercial (or whatever) and sending the tournament to the Golf Channel if the tournament is running long?

I don't mind blimps and hang gliders and ocean views. Even a bit too often, if you're watching the whole thing. It's the commercials that are getting tedious. They are stuffing way too much ad time into their broadcast hours.

Probably only going to get worse. Sporting events are essentially the only thing people still watch live on tv....meaning the only time people still watch commercials. Because of that, the networks are going to cram as many commercials as possible into a live broadcast.

This weekend, the on course commentators were standing in front of this display what was disguised as a Microsoft Surface device where they were giving their expert analysis. I'm sure this was Microsoft's idea to "enhance" the coverage and show people how much smarter they will be with a Surface device. Personally, I would rather stay in a Holiday Inn Express. I think that would be more beneficial too.

Product placement, Carl. If you become aware of it, they put products and drop names dozens of times an hour. This doesn't bother me as much as commercial breaks every seven minutes. But they do talk a lot, too.

I don't really mind. It's so lovely in La Jolla and Pebble, especially when it's winter where I am, so I enjoy seeing lovely vistas and outdoor activities alongside the broadcast. I could do with less of Jim Nantz calling us all friends, but otherwise, whatever. It's mostly background for me these days unless it's a close finish.

Commentators will never shut up. They feel the need to constantly chatter so the network can't complain that they're paying for silence.

Couldn't agree more. After Rahm holed his eagle putt on 18, it seemed like CBS was far more interested in showing him signing autographs than televising the remaining golfers.

I get it, 1st place was wrapped up and that's where most of the intrigue is. But Finau still had a shot at an uncontested 2nd place finish, he was in the very last group (meaning no one else competing for TV time) and CBS couldn't be troubled to show him on 18 until he was hitting his 3rd shot.

As far as commercials go, its about the same wherever you watch it. Marketing analysis suggests that the target audience for golf broadcasts are by average more affluent than any of the other stick and ball sports. So you're getting commerircals, no matter the network. I do notice that the CBS broadcasts go off topic more than the others, though.

I would pay for a subscription service if it was like NFL Redzone - where you could watch coverage from multiple holes, all drives, all approaches, no putts under 6'.
I get so tired of only seeing 2 or 3 or 4 players  - c'mon man it's 2017, use this technology to our benefit.

Wait a minute! That's your big complaint? That CBS didn't show Tony Finau trying to to finish in uncontested second place?! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!?

FWIW, I was following Finau too. The broadcast did seem to get a bit lost with showing other players after Rahm's incredible putt.

Ha, yeah, it's a rampant disease across all live sport broadcasts.

Trying to watch a game and just focus on the action of the game while the camera switches to the crowd, some vignette, and at the same time the commentators are going on about their glory days, some hobby, current events, and on and on.  There is a game happening, y'know, that fans are wanting to actually watch.

Sometimes I wish they would have the "featured group" as an available channel/sub-channel on TV.  I know that might take away from advertising but...

In the same vein of other discussion here it is truly frustrating watching sports these days with commercials.  I laugh at NFL and college basketball when the stated run-time for those shows is still three and two hours, respectively.  I would guess that 95% of the time it runs over.  HOCKEY now has commercial breaks for the love of god.  Can't wait to see when they want to propose having "quarters" in soccer to add a period of commercials.  The europeans would revolt...as they should.

I've seen old tapings from the late 80's and 90's of NFL and it's stunning how short the commercial breaks were.  I'd seriously pay for a channel of Golf that was a continuous feed...like The Masters online is at the separate holes and featured groups.

Fairways and Greens.

They are also the most costly contracts to secure. Have to pay for their multi year deals somehow. That somehow is going to be more commercials.

Add a little here, a little there over the years and pop, it's 20 minutes or more per hour.
