So a buddy of mine went on Saturday and noted that 4 college kids were sitting next to them and they shouted out pretty loud after Ernie putted on a hole.

Moments later they were escorted off the the course.

Score 1 for golfers against the "Get in the Hole" jerks.

The Tommy Fleetwood serenade on Saturday was hilarious though.

I don't know.  If I see him I'll ask him.  It's funny though, he said "rowdy college students" and this guy is just a year out of college himself.

Perhaps they were sporting shirts that weren't tucked in or they were wearing cargo shorts or something...these particularly annoying shouters... of the golf comment

Well what they shouted seems the most relevant part to me. I don't have any problem with people shouting as long as it's at a proper time and not vulgar. Frankly I don't really care for silly stuff like "mashed potatoes"...but it's not really disrespectful. I was following Stenson/Rose 2015 Arnold Palmer Inv....this pack of college guys would yell "That's good golf!"...after every Rose swing...but they would cut it too close often and start yelling before Rose had finished swinging. I politely quieted them.

So my friend works here and sits close and I JUST asked him.  He said it was simply "Get in the Hole" and nothing profane or anything like that and they did it on each shot.  But he thought they were really cutting it close and assumed a player in that group might have complained.  I'm not sure who was matched with Ernie on Saturday.  That's all I got.

He was asked to comment on JT's 63, and said as part of his response or a follow-up question or something that JT's round wasn't at Oakmont (tougher course) nor was it to win (on Sunday).

Both facts, but you can take them as diminishing JT's round, too.

Thanks for the recap.

I definitely didn't feel anything special about it.  I think part of it was that I spent 6 hours in the car this weekend listening to PGA Tour radio on Sirius XM and all they really talked about was the course and whether it was a good "US Open" course.  When I watched, it felt like just another tournament.  I don't know if it was the course, or Fox's broadcast/presentation of it, or just a lot of upcoming-wedding drama that was distracting me.

i too dint feel the US open aura. I think its because of these:

* No big names in the final strech

* No major collapse

* No close challenger in the final stretch.

* The bombers were too long for the attempted stretched out holes.

They even made a 'fescue' video since fescue wasn't a prominent factor in the game when compared to British open! That video was super lame btw.

When I see content like this on social media, to some extent, I feel like the broadcast has failed me - admittedly, I skipped a lot of it so they might have aired segments like this, but I doubt it. I mean that church was interesting, but lightweight stuff, although I liked the hay coverage, but I saw that on YouTube, not the broadcast.

I thought it was a pretty good tournament personally.  It was nice watching a new course.  I thought it looked good on tv.  It seemed to be plenty tough enough for most of the players out there especially when the wind did blow.  I don't really care all that much about the big names not being on the leaderboard.  Play better.  Hit those huge fairways.  It looked like some good golf got played.

I'm weird though.  I enjoyed chambers bay also.

So that makes it last 7 majors, 7 different winners?

I think those reasons are spot on. I can't help but think Shinnecock is gonna wreck some havoc on these guys next year ....lol

I for one thoroughly enjoyed the US Open. The grounds were huge and offered lots of viewing opportunities (Watch the green at 13 and see them tee off at 14).  The course was in beautiful shape. The play was outstanding.  It was unfortunate that we the wind was down the first 3 days and we had over night rain that softened up the course.  I have now crossed off 2 of the 4 majors off my bucket list.  The Masters and The British Open are yet to come.  I was lucky enough to be on the grounds every day of the event except Saturday. It was an amazing experience. Congrats to Brooks Koepka!

I see that as a healthy thing (especially when extending those 7 winners back to other, recent majors to include Rory, Jason, Jordan, and so on). I like the modern era of major championship winners. The only anomaly in there, in my opinion, is Danny Willett, whom I cheered at the time but whom I now see as Ian Baker Finch for the 2010s. Any of the others could win again.

If you look back at major championship generations of the recent past, well, there was a long period when the question was, "Who comes second to Tiger?", interspersed with occasional Phil, Ernie, Payne, and Vijay victories. Before that, it seemed like Nick Faldo grinding down Norman, Price, et al. I was too young to really remember Seve in his prime, alas, and Jack and Tom (to my generation) are names from recent history - other than 1986, I never saw Jack contend in a major. But there's an awful lot to be excited about with this young crop of players.

OK, here are my last thoughts on this.

As for Oakmont in 73, yes the course was a monster, a soaking wet monster! So why was Miller the one and only guy to take advantage of it? Could it be he just had an "on" day?

And for Erin Hills this year. You take a course meant to be played in the wind, check the weather data for the time of year your tournament will be held, and decide to set up the course that way. Then you get a week of heavy rains and almost no wind! You can wind up looking like a fool!

Now let's imagine the other scenario. The USGA sets up it's courses like it did in the past. Shrink the fairways, bring the fescue closer in, to where, if the wind blows, a ton of people are hitting it in the hay. The prep for a US Open begins many years before the actual event! Now you get nothing but hack out, boring golf! You're damned if you do and damned if you don't! This is where the USGA lives.

I had no problem with how the course was set up, or how it played, Not everybody went low. The guys who could hit the shots did.

I think it was seven different first-time winners.  Can you believe Zach Johnson was the last person to win a major having had a previous major title?

I'll be there on Thursday. Really looking forward to walking the course.

The course was beautiful. It was definitely not an easy one like I've seen some people saying. Very long and very challenging.

Those same 4 kids attempted to grab Jordan Spieth after he was nice enough to tell the driver of his escort cart to stop so he could take a picture with them. They were extremely drunk and did not care at all about anyone else in attendance. They got what was coming to them.

The event was awesome. I loved working security, and I got to meet most of the players. Though, not all of them are nice. BUBBA IM LOOKING AT YOU.

It honestly seemed more like the PGA than the Open. I enjoyed the course though and wonder how it would of played dried out.
