Yeah, thanks for the creative edit.   The guy was considered a joke for a long time in the NY area, and with good reason.   Does that men much today?  Not really, he's re-invented himself at least twice since the late 90s.   Make sure you apply a lot of sunscreen to that thin skin of yours, there are other viewpoints out there.

Nah, I disliked Trump for more than a decade before his first foray into politics. For one, he tried to frame himself as a self-made man, and that was absurd in the late 90s. Besides that, I often told people that the two most incredible egomaniacs I've ever seen interviewed by Letterman (and I watch a huge % of his shows during it's run) were Sly Stallone and Trump. And the latter was far worse. These were the only two celebrities who I felt were so bad at being self-depriciating, that they actually came across as ego monsters while attempting to do so.

But, it doesn't matter. I mean, you'll probably take that above paragraph as political.

To put something else topical on here...interesting that even Bandon Dunes asks golfers to take their push-carts across the greens:

Ditto Bandon Dunes (although at Bandon golfers with carts are asked to cross the greens only, and not to park their carts on them).

Obviously, a motorized cart is many times heavier than a push-cart, so it's not exactly a fair comparison.

Might as well get the snark out: I'm starting to think that this guy believes the rules don't apply to him.

What?  How is that political? (Outside of the fact that I mentioned trump, who this convo is about)   Trump has had a reputation as a jackass well before his politics, and Arnie having a positive reputation certainly has nothing to do with politics.  So?

Fellow members and contributors

This post not meant to spark any political discussion. I wanted to bring attention to the degrade in general etiquette on the golf course.

Examples set by Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer and Byron Nelson seemed superseded by YouTube videos of golf cart jumps and the President's behavior. We are all stewards of this game and should act as gentlemen or ladies when we have the privilege to play. Respect the game and work others do daily that make it possible.

Thanks for the time.

Here's how I see it -

If it were someone else other than Trump caught on camera driving across a green, would your opinion change?

Then you're being political (in the broadest sense of the word) - you're basing your opinion not on the action but by who is doing it.

To me, anyone, course owner or dishwasher, that drives a golf cart across a green is a dick.

Video quality isn't great. The audio says he's on the green but could he be skirting it? Hard to tell where green stops and fairway begins. Most places want you to turn off a little before the green anyway. If it's not technically the green does that mitigate his faux pas?

A push cart I can actually understand. A push cart doesn't way much, and you're spreading the weight of the (relatively light) cart and bag over three wheels. I'm not going to push for it to become commonplace (and I don't do it myself), but I certainly wouldn't lose my mind if people started pushing carts across greens.

Motorized carts are a whole different story.

This action, (driving on or near the green), regardless of the individual is wrong.

Push carts also have thinner tires. I've seen my push cart leave small lines in a soft fairway before. Not sure if it is leaving a small indent or not, but I wouldn't push it over a soft green.

A motorized golf cart has no place being anywhere near a green.

That's not quite a fair statement either.

Pounds per square inch comes into play here.  Small/thin tires on a push cart can do more damage compared to larger tires on a heavier cart.  It just depends on weight and surface area.  But, I'm pretty sure that cart tires would have to be a lot larger to distributed the weight enough to protect the green.

1) I don't even walk on the green while carrying a bag.  Hell, I don't even walk on a tee box with a bag and get upset when I see other people drag their push-carts through one.

2) The damn cart is motorized!  The individual in question saved himself about three seconds.  It is certainly rude.  Using the mathematical formula of (commonality of the knowledge of the etiquette (C)) * (Extrinsic purpose of the etiquette (P) divided by (individual benefits gained (I)) [ CP/I formula]; I am of the opinion that this was an intentional act as well.

I'm shocked that a lot of you are surprised.

It clearly shows his character... for those of you that are surprised.

But is he doing something physically damaging to the course? Meh, probably not. He also owns the course. So it's not like an "I can do what I want on any golf course, I'm a big shot!" It's his property, so really, he can. Should he? No. But we shouldn't be surprised based on what we know about him.

So it's just a question about class, and that ship has sailed for this man.

<I've reviewed my comment, and I feel nothing here is political - merely character>

I am not sure as to the push cart-on-the-green thing (I think it might depend on the grass species and other environmental factors), but what damage do you think a push cart on a tee box will do? It's basically a small section of fairway isn't it? I try not to roll right through the middle of them since I know some people get upset but I often will roll over the sides or corners to avoid having to zig-zag my way to the fairway.

I'm no groundskeeper, but the greens where I tend to play are sandier and softer than the rest of the course, to allow for drainage.  This also allows for more damage due to downward pressure.

Admittedly, very little.  Even if it does do damage, the effect of such damage on the player is mitigated by the fact that the player can choose where he stands and the ball sits on a tee.  It's really the attitude of it.  Why does a golfer need to bring the weight and potential damage of all his clubs there?  He's not benefiting himself much by doing so.  It's not a horrible breach of etiquette (if it even is a breach); it's just a personal rule that I follow.

For pure transparency; I often golf with my father.  He has a bad hip and gets a flag for the cart and permission to drive on the course closer to the greens than others are allowed.  I'm not a fan.  But, if the course is going to allow it, so be it.

    • You need to stick with one instructor as long as they’re not terrible. There’s no blueprint to improving a golf swing and different instructors may see different things as being more important and try to fix them. The end result is you get a hodge podge of things to work in that may not be cohesive or necessarily help you. If you stick to one instructor and communicate to them as such, they’ll also be able to work out a roadmap to your improvement which is more beneficial in the long run. If a guy assumes you’re just coming in for one lesson you might end up with a band aid.

    • Many thanks.  I read a lot of those posts.   Man, that is really deep.  As an old beginner, during a lesson or on the driving range, I have hit a good shot, you know pretty straight and it goes say 130 yards (7 iron).  The very next swing, I dig a ditch behind the ball.  I know I didn't do the same things on both swings.  Even this last lesson I had, I would hit a pretty good shot, not so on the next shot.  The instructor would quickly point out, "Hey you stayed on your back foot" or "Guess what happened there.  You got all armsy or handsy".  Sort of feels like I need a checklist when I prepare to swing each time.  I can see it now before every swing, "Hey can you guys give me 10 minutes while I run through my checklist".  In all seriousness, I see what you all are saying.  I wouldn't be overthinking it so much if just I could make decent contact most of the time.  Next lesson is about two weeks away.  Can't wait.

    • I was going to link in the same think @snapfade did.  Your swing is already consistent, repeatable, except for nearly "microscopic" differences.  The more mechanically-sound your swing becomes, the smaller and less frequent those "microscopic" deviations become.
