Great round!

Agree with the responders who've said its not fishy.  I've done it all of once (last year sometime and it's in here somewhere) because even if you are a decent golfer; it's very easy to bogey a par 5 or double a par 4 and still shoot in the 70s or even around par.  It just takes one squirrely shot.

Anecdotally, the top 20 players on the leaderboard at Pebble right now today shot;

67, 66, 70, 73, 69, 67, 70, 71, 69, 70, 72, 70, 73, 69, 73, 70, 71, 72, 69, 72

11 of those 20 scores (the bold ones) include a 6 or worse.

Wow, some interesting stats. You are a very good golfer as well. My low round is a 73 on my home course, without a 6 in the mix. I am a 14 cap right now as well, so I don't get into the 70's, nor without a 6, very often. When I come to think about it, my goal has been, even before this thread, to not get a 6 in my round. That has been, and is, one of my prevailing thoughts going on, on the first tee.

Thanks - And yeah, I blow most of my rounds with a 6 in the first 6-7 holes so I was super stoked when I finished the front without one. I couldn’t help but tell my buddies I was playing with about the challenge at that point and we celebrated after that last par 5 (figuring I wasn’t going to double bogey any of the remaining 2-3 holes). It was awesome. Now I can quit thinking about it 🙃

One of my goals is to break 80 in a tournament round. Last year on a real tester of a course I was on my way until the last 3 holes. I double bogied all three, which include a 6, 5, and 6, par 4, 3, 4, and shot an 82. I mean I was rolling that day, but just ran out of steam.

Made it through the front 9 on Saturday at +3 and no sixes. For the first nine holes there was only one hole where a 6 came into play; I had to take a drop from red-staked penalty area (lying 3), but pitched from 60 yards to 2 feet and tapped in for a 5. At the turn the "no sixes" challenge suddenly entered my thoughts. I proceeded to score 8-6-6 on tenth, eleventh, and twelfth holes. Welp 😪

Shot 45 for nine holes with no 7’s.  Didn’t even realize it until I finished.

Just played Big Rock at Indian Springs and got my first no six round to complete this challenge. Hope to post a couple more in the coming weeks.

Three bogies, two birdie, no three putts, 73.

My older brother introduced me to golf back in the persimmon/balata days, and as soon as I started to pick up the game, this was his exact advice to me, never write a 6. He believed you should always be able to par a par 5, and of course writing 6 for a par 3 hole is absurd and hopefully exceedingly rare. He said "always ask yourself 'how can I make 5?'" Wish he was still around to play with me...

I came really close yesterday. For league last night we were playing the back nine. So a few of us played the front 9 right before league. That way we got in a full 18 AND I got to go into league really warmed up. I won't bore you with all the gory details, but I parred both par 5's on the front side. A GIR on the first, and I got up and down on the second. I shot 42 with no sixes on the front side.

Then league started. I got 3 straight GIR's for par... Wow, great start. Missed left on a long par 3, made 4. Still no sixes.

An NGIR bogey on 14, still no sixes.

Hole 15 is a challenging par 5. I tattooed my drive, best of the night. 195 to the flag; It's almost entirely over water. Green slopes severely back to front. I hit hybrid, one of those totally pure shots that come along once in a while. Flew over the flag. Landed just past the collar and bounced down a hill behind the green. Because of the steep slope of the green, it now runs down away from me. I hit what I thought was a brilliant chip/pitch. Because of the severe slope it rolled and rolled and trickled away from the flag ending up leaving a 25 foot up-hill birdie putt.

..... Then it happened!

I stubbed my putter an inch or two behind the ball. Weak putt up the hill ends up leaving me 7-8 more feet for a par. The par putt lipped out. I made a 6. 😢

Anyhow, I went 42, 42 and played easily the best round I've played all year. I hadn't shot a round in the 80's since April. I think the driver was the key. The driver was really good last night. I played the entire round with just one ball.  👍

I'll continue my pursuit of the no sixes challenge. I've done it before, but not recently.

I missed the no sixes challenge with one three putt on a par 5. It was a long first putt (56 feet) over a ridge. Dang!

Just saw this come up,   Last month I did this on my home course.   Bogeys only on par 3s and 4s, and I parred all the par 5s.

I, similarly, three-putted my last hole (a par-5) in my club championship after hitting it in regulation, to have played the par-5s in +1 for the tournament.  Hit all in regulation, three-putted two of them.

But we're making progress!  I still want to have a second round without sixes.

Still don't have one this year.  Thought I might pull it off yesterday, but took a 6 on the into the wind par 5 12th.

You'll get there.

One of the best things about this challenge has been that it got me thinking about avoiding the six -- even when it means playing a shot that reduced my chances of a four, but also reduced my chances of anything worse than five.  This especially when I'm facing a challenging second shot on a par-4, and I think that has helped my scoring average.  I think about this even in rounds where a six has already happened.

Thanks - I am close and have a lot of opportunities coming up in the next two weeks.  Played nine holes Monday night and had all 3, 4, and 5s.  Played nine holes last night, and didn't play real great, but got by with only one 6 on the last hole.

I've noticed myself trusting my wedge game and putter more lately.  When I get into a little trouble with my tee ball, I've been content with advancing it a reasonable distance and attempting to scramble for par or bogey.

    • Day 313 - I played 18 today. First and last holes were ugly, but I actually played pretty well. Driver was great, irons were alright, and the short game was better than average.
    • Day 205 (23 Nov 24) - Worked with the alignment rod and 7i  in reference to ball position in relation to lead foot on full iron shots, noticed an increase in thinned shots last couple of rounds - better contact with the balls (hard foam) during the drill/swing rehearsals.
    • Have you gone to a fitting? A good fitting will not only give you a clubhead but a shaft, etc. that will suit you.
