Yes I agree with you. I have probably sprouted out some of those words myself in my younger years.. I think we should all try to control ourselves more, but golf can bring out the superlatives faster than almost anything. No excuses! You could say something before the round about there being a lady present.

What bugs me most about cussing and swearing is the total absorption of that player with himself and his own game, independent of whether a lady is present or not. Making a meal of a bad shot detracts from the "togetherness" of playing a round of golf with partners and - if taken too far - can actually put others off their game.

I get frustrated as hell with myself when I am playing badly, but I would certainly try not to spoil the atmosphere and enjoyment for those playing with me.

I guess I was just brought up in a different time than most of you, i.e. I'm old.  But we certainly knew how to use foul language, but didn't very often and never in polite (read female, no I'm not sexist I'm explaining how it was then), at least not on purpose.  Today I listen to the younger set and it would seem about every third word or so starts with F or M and there are a few other.  Regardless of how I feel on such conversation being acceptable in public I would to say when the words are so common they lose their impact.  But I see foul language in public as just another example of how our population just doesn't have respect for others of differing values.  I understand the teen set, they are just trying to "fit in" and show they are all grown up, just like we did as teen.  But young adults and even a lot of middle aged adults that use these words as just a normal way of communicating, I don't understand at all what they hope to accomplish by offending a significant part of the population.

Agreed, too much foul language used in the course of daily conversation. Everything is F'in this and F'in that, all the time.

I used to cuss on the course after a bad swing, and didn't really realize I was doing it. All it took was some video proof and ridicule to cure me.

I don't run around dropping F bombs all the time but I can certainly let go of a barrage of colorful language if the moment strikes me. Good thing all my friends are equally fluent in the art. My wife is just as bad, she goes into bars and sailors start running out.

Besides cursing is a sign of intelligence.

I worked in a field that was predominantly male so I've heard a lot of cursing in my day.  I will not be offended by an occasional swear word, however, I do object to someone turning the air blue with every stoke.

Mine is also, if we are playing with someone and they start swearing usually they release they are with a female and say sorry. My wife will usually say that is okay I sometimes let out a few myself. I also have a tendency to swear once in awhile after a very poor shot or decision, but if there is a female in the group I watch my language as I was brought up not to be obnoxious in front of the opposite sex.

I'm one of those guys who swears a lot during my solo rounds - when no one is in ear shot. If others are around, I try very hard to keep it to a minimum.

Mixed company or not, it isn't the words we use that offend, invite ridicule or make others feel uncomfortable. It's the inability to keep some semblance of composure. The occasional "damn it" or even an f-bomb is normal. It's how quickly we can laugh it off or how we handle poor play throughout the round that matters, IMO.

If I'm playing with others and my game is especially poor, I try to keep the frustration internal. The times when I do let loose, I'll apologize and make sure it doesn't happen a second time.

That said, I failed too often at keeping my composure while playing with my partner in 2017. I probably just became too relaxed in his company. He'd always say it didn't bother him but I don't know how it couldn't have. I think I'll go back to playing more solo rounds in 2018.

As far as mixed company, maybe I'm old-fashioned. The day I let loose a string of profanities around someone else's wife or child is the day I call it quits - or go on meds. It's just a game, after all.

There are much worse breaches of etiquette out there than cussing. 

I'd rather listen to someone cuss than:

the abhorrently slow play by some people out there.

the teenagers playing music on their phones.

the guy talking on his cellphone on the driving range. 

the guy laying 8 already and hasn't touched the surface of the green yet.

Those above are acceptable, and yet they are the exact same thing as the related curse words, and everyone knows it!   It's just weird that the so-called "curse words" are unacceptable for some reason.

Acceptable yes, but you would get some strange looks on the course if you suddenly shouted "Womans private parts" after a bad shot

I try not to swear myself and substitute the curse words for "ok" ones such as the good old irish "Feck" or some thing like "Oh for fuff sake" or if things are REALLY bad then it may be "ahhhhh see you next tuesday!!"

We played today with @kpaulhus in Tampa at his course, but I think the cold weather kept her reserved.

it's only a round of golf, not worth veins bulging around your neck swearing out of control, I'm no holier than the next guy but there are quite a few more things in life to get excited about before a poor shot. My last outburst happened a couple years ago I was really playing well 1 over through 15 then played the next 3 holes 7 over on a tough track 139 slope 73.9 after that day I didn't see the point of it anymore.
