this a real downside for me.  if I'm going to any kind of range, I want to hit my distances.  (regardless of whether I can get wings and beer there).

I hear it's a lot of fun as long as you accept it for what it is, which is a golf-themed Dave & Busters, rather than a driving range where you go to work on your game.

Shotmakers is still terrible, though.

There's beer in my refrigerator. It doesn't cost $8 a pint and I don't have to rent my living room at $50/hour to get it.

Certainly, but getting calibrated would just stink.  it's 120 yards, I grab my PW and swing normal and still land completely short.  It's like a range with crappy balls......

It doesn't take that long. Hit a max of about four or five balls, you're calibrated. The gaps are known, and yours just shrink accordingly.

That's a price I'm willing to pay for good beer.

Or, transfer to the upper deck. You will be plenty long from there... . FWIW, I found the ball flight to be normal long.

I watched about 15 minutes worth earlier this week. Maybe I just caught a rough patch but I had hard time understanding why these fairly good golfers were missing the orange and blue targets more than half the time (their stats were 70-80% accuracy).

Seeing the promos, I figured it was nothing more than a promotional vehicle for TopGolf. I have little patience for "pseudo-reality" TV.

Topgolf uses limited flight range balls according to just about every review and comment I've read of the place.

Still can't find a good reason to go to one.

I know one good business reason, at least for me - customer entertainment. It's more inclusive and takes less time than full golf. Plus  I can expense it.

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

Ok, let me first preface this with a full disclosure that I'm old, and have been called a golf snob. While I totally understand that there are many efforts underway to try to promote golf to a new generation, this isn't golf. Long drive contests, Top Golf, and all of these "golf" reality shows clearly are very appealing to a portion of the golfing public. Also these venues and events help equipment manufacturers  sell their products to a much larger audience.  However, I think many life long golfers like me who love the game and revel in it's history, do not have much interest in these activities. I can only speak for myself, but I would much rather watch a rerun of the 1982 Quad Cities Open than the Big Break or Shotmakers at TopGolf.

I'm not a big fan of these type shows, but when bored, will watch. However, I have no interest in watching a replay of a Quad Cities Open, or any other tournament. I mean, how could you ever get that bored? There are other channels...BTW I'm no spring chicken, either. LOL

Golf snobs spell Payne's name properly. ;-)

After reading most of the posts on this thread, I watched some of the show. That's 15 minutes of my life that I will never get back.

My bag:

Taylor Made R7 (x-stiff).
Taylor Made Burner 2 irons (stiff)
Cleveland Wedges (gap and 60)

They balls can't be that limited if that one dude is hitting 200+ yard hooked nine irons.  I don't care how much power his swing has.
