To tee or not to tee...

  1. 1. Do you use a tee on shorter holes?

I use a tee when ever possible. Hell, if were allowable, I'd use a tee on all shots to the green.

I always use a tee when appropriate.     I found this on the web:

Hitting from a tee gives around 3 yards extra distance and so some pros prefer not to add the extra variabile of a tee when they know their yardages so precisely. It was Sam Snead who said something like: I don'know of a golfer good enough not to put the ball on a peg when the rules of golf allow it.

I don’t use a tee past a 9-iron on a par 3.   But I do put it nice and highly placed on the grass if it’s some type of wedge.   It’s great if you have the game to drop a ball and hit, but I would say always use one.

It depends on the teebox grass. Bent grass or some version of Poa I always use a tee. Zoysia grass I  almost never use a tee because it doesn't have grain to it and it grows as straight up and if it isn't dormant then it is a perfect tee height for irons, hybrids, and fairway woods.  Basically just setting the ball on top of it is just like teeing the ball up anyway.

I will play devils advocate though and say that a tee isn't necessarily an advantage though.  Even if you tee the ball up a slight amount that is going to affect the distance the shot will travel and adjustments have to be made or you will strike the ball high on the face.  Also if you are striking ball first, which the golfer should be, then the ball being on a tee it irrelevant. And finally, all other shots are hit off of the ground from various lies so being able to place the ball on the turf within a teebox, which hopefully has adequate turf, in most cases should be sufficient!!

I know I am going to regret asking this question, but why 200 yards?

Personally I tee it up 18 times a round (hopefully).

I tee up when rules allow.  It is called the tee box, after all!

I always tee it up.

Imagine getting to play an entire round where you could tee the ball up on every shot if you wanted too?  Would you say nah, I'll play it as it lies.  I would highly doubt it.

If the tee box has great grass and a clean lie available, I'll skip the tee for any iron or wedge or hybrids.  Something about using a tee in those situations messes with me - I practice my irons off the deck, why change things.  If the lie is crappy (or TOO perfect that it's goofy tight), I tee it a tiny, tiny, tiny, amount.  I want a perfect lie, I don't want an an outlier high lie - that's silly.

3w.....I use a tee and tee it LOW.  I can't completely make the same argument - it helps for sure.

Driver of course tee it up.

There was another thread like this one. Don’t remember how I answered there but for sure a tee.

Even if I do hit 3 yards further or whatever, it’s way better than the potential for chunking.

I always tee it up when I can.  For a short iron, I may only have the ball 1/8 inch above where it would otherwise rest, but it still on a tee.

Because my natural miss is long and I'm tired of the ball landing in the rough past the green.

If your natural miss is long, and you are commonly over the green, you need to reconsider your choice of clubs.  Others might know better than I do, but I don't think that teeing up an iron will make much more than a couple of yards difference.

When I first started playing I read an article where Jack Nicklaus said you should always tee up on a par 3 to lower chances of hitting it fat.  Seemed like sound advice to me.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
