-6 is not that much of an acomplishment. His par was 66.. (4 par 5´s and 2 reachebale par 4's).

If  he  had shot a  59 they should  have  put an asterisk beside  it. And before  i get blasted David Feherty said  on air once that he and  many players call it  lift, clean, and  cheat. This  playoff tournament this weekend  is an embarrassment to golf.

You could say the same thing about any round. A guy could shoot 59 in a regular tour round and it not be enough because it wasn’t on a Sunday. Or maybe it was on a Sunday, but he didn’t win. Or maybe he did win, but it was the Easy Golf Course Open with an easy field. Or maybe it was on a hard golf course, but it wasn’t a major. Or maybe it was at a major, but xyz other reasons. We can sit here all day and come up with caveats, Etc., etc. 
 

Just relax and enjoy the golf. 👍

Thats not the same thing as allowing  players to tee  up shots  in the fairway. I  have a really simple solution to lift clean and cheat. Allow the  player to pick up the  ball and clean mud  off  it but then DO NOT let them tee up the  next shot. They  have to drop the  ball and then play it where  it  lands. And  no re-drop. If  it rolls  2 inches  closer to the hole  play it there.

Oy, man, no. That's not anywhere close to the Rules of Golf.

The Tour players like lift clean and place because they feel it's "fairer" and more entertaining to have them hitting good shots instead of mud-ball shots, because the fans can't necessarily know that they had a glob of mud on the side of their ball. They also perform better and feel better about themselves as a result.

The USGA/R&A don't institute LCP very often, because they care more about that stuff, but they're not as much about "entertainment" nor are they a player-run organization.

This stuff's not hard to figure out, and your "rule" would be taken advantage of and so much worse than the LCP we have currently.

For lift, clean, and place are people thinking that golfers are picking their ball up out of the rough, cleaning it, and then placing the ball in a perfect lie on top of the rough? That's the only thing I can think of when people talk about "teeing the ball up", because lift, clean, and place only applies to fairway (or better) lies and I don't think many people understand how tightly mown most PGA Tour tournament courses are in the fairway. Most PGA tournaments have fairways cut as tight, or tighter, than most courses cut their fringe (assuming they have a different mowing height for fringe between fairway and green height). There's virtually nothing there to tee the ball up on, it just means that players are hitting a clean golf ball from the fairway rather than a potentially muddy ball from the fairway.

If anything, on the subject of Bryson DeChambeau and his bulking specifically (which this topic is about), you would expect lift, clean, and place to help minimize the advantages he gained in distance. Players who hit it shorter but prioritize fairway hits gain an advantage, if Bryson misses the fairway he can't clean his ball and loses that benefit. It's not much, but it increases the benefit of the fairway slightly and narrows the strokes gained gap between "long and in the wrong" and "shorter and in the fairway" as a result. The effects would be so small as to be virtually immeasurable, since lift, clean, and place doesn't actually provide substantial benefit other than avoiding random mudballs, but if there is any effect it would be helpful to the Bryson "issue" that this topic was made to discuss.

Except with Bryson's longer distance he's missing out on the fun of landing in a divot, while the average hitters are driving it into "divot city".

BDC made it through first round in World Long Drive today. Just saw the news. Cool to see him competing with the guys that mostly only do that while still being a world class golfer.

I find it funny that everyone thinks BD is huge and bulked up. Then we see him next to a real bulked up player and he looks small.
