No, it's answering the question. Practice on the course, the way I practice, is less valuable than time on the range. So I made the best of it while staying within your rules. You didn't say six tournament rounds per week or anything like that.

Fair enough

Would you rather #8:
Assuming you had unlimited time each day.

Would you rather play 18 holes of golf 6 days per week but only go practice golf once per week?
Or, would you rather practice golf 6 days per week and only play 18 holes once per week?

I'd prefer to play.  I enjoy my practice, but if I have the time, I'll play.

There was a time when I would rather practice than play, but today my game is going to benefit more from playing than practicing, i.e. learn how to handle certain lies, etc.  Besides, about half of my rounds are solo anyways so those really have become my practice sessions.

I’d actually think I would prefer to practice 6 days a week and play the other day. My game would benefit from it more, my wallet would benefit from that vs playing 6 days a week, and it would give me more time to do other things.

I'd much rather play 6 days a week. I practice a fair amount on the course anyways, so this would just mean more time playing golf, which would be great.

Would rather play 6 days a week - although my caveat would be that I don't think my body would appreciate playing/practicing 7 days a week. At some point my knees, back, elbow would want a day off .... but I'd be willing to give it a try, though the weather might have something to say about it.

I'd much rather play the 18 holes of golf 6 days per week and practice once per week.   There are times when I'm by myself I do practice on the course.

I have an assistant pro friend with a +2.5.  He's also a teaching pro.  He recommends his students practice what he taught them.  But this guy NEVER practices... and I kid him about it because I practice a lot.  He says he can practice everything he needs on the course.  I kinda like that approach.  So I'll go with playing 6 days a week instead of my usual 3 days of playing and 4 days of practice.  I assume ChetLovesMer is picking up the tab on this...

I'm going to construe this as limiting what I think the author intended: meaning, PLAY v. PRACTICE.  None of this practicing on the golf course business some are trying to sneak by with.  I know the facts don't say tournament play, but I'm going to construe it as tournament play/important matches/etc. v. practice time.  Otherwise, methinks that's cheating the scenario a bit, but I don't blame you--I would do the same.

As such, I'm going to take practice.  Playing golf that much would be fun for a while but then it would become far too unwieldy and could lead to burn out.  While you can certainly learn a lot on the course, I fear that playing that much and having such little time to work on things would lead to bad habits and no growth.

Practicing 6 days a week, on the other hand, would be very beneficial.  You could separate your practice time out in blocks, do mixed/random practice, practice/play on a simulator, and really own your swing.  I think that would lead to more anticipation and excitement for when you get to play that once per week.

You do you, but don't be surprised when others react like @70sSanO did earlier.

I answered the question as written. If I am on the course hitting balls I'm "playing." I'm also practicing. Hell, a "practice round" at a PGA Tour event is still "playing" too.

I know, I said I would do the same.  I just felt that the author had other intentions, and to me, they were clear; but, I get the "loop hole" attempt ya'll went for!

I would choose playing six times a week over the practice alternative.  I prefer playing golf versus practicing.

Given just this choice, I would play. But I think most of us would have a different ratio.

Would I HAVE to practice once a week?  I really don’t want to increase my practice time that dramatically!   :-D

Play.  Always.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
