My ski season was cut short due to a knee injury and covid-19. After 6 weeks of rehab, I finally got my first round of golf in today and shot a 79 with 10 pars + 1 birdie!

@iacas I just remembered my home course has 27 holes and which 18 I play on a given day is random. How should I enter my score?

Many ski resorts here have closed...including Whistler Blackcomb which still has 6+ weeks left....I've skied Whistler in May....then downloaded at 1pm to go play golf at the Whistler Golf Club.

Sorry to hear about your injured messed up ski season.

I say pick the 18 you play the most frequently. The other nine will be like a course that isn't your "home course," and if you play it and nine on your "home 18" then those nine holes on your "home" 18 can count.

Checked two more off this list yesterday. I have now birdied all 4 of the par 5's, but only one par 3 and one par 4. Now comes the hard part.

I'm with you.  Three rounds in, and I've birdied all four par-5s, and two short par-4s, I've got all the low-hanging fruit.

Playing now. Birdied nine so far. Two of my par fives are not easy. Especially 15.

Dude - I’ll make 1 birdie every 1-2 rounds. So jealous

I generally play 15-20 rounds/year spanning 6-7 courses, so I will have to piece it together.

Hole 1 - Pendleton GC, Ruther Glen VA

Hole 8 - Pendleton GC, Ruther Glen, VA

Played yesterday and birdied #7, which is an easy par 4 at our course.  Good enough though, no one else in the croup cut me off.   Today, I was running a bit late, no practice warm up and started off good with a birdie on #1 par 5, followed by a birdie on #9 par 5 and another on #10 par 5.  A pretty good round for me today with 3 birdies.

Hole 4. Chipped in from the rough on the far side of the green. (6 of 18)

Birdie on #2 today.  I never got within about 10' of my playing group today.  We are playing with raised cups so nobody has to put a hand in the cup either.  Not sure how much longer our course will be able to stay open.

2 yesterday puts me over the halfway mark at 10.

Interestingly, I still have one par-5, a shortish par-4, and the easiest par-3 on the course available.

You still get to post that in the spreadsheet as a -2 instead of the -1.

Yep I did for March, I eagled it last time I played it, so it was a repeat.

    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.
    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
