First it says stay 6 feet away, and then the next sentence is stay out of gimme distance. 6 foot gimmes? I'd be single digits if that were the case!

I am in one of the six counties that have just been ordered to shelter in place until at least April 7th, in the San Francisco Bay Area. It appears that it is the strictest protocol in place anywhere in the US so far.  This can be enforced by the sheriffs and PDs. The only exceptions are for getting groceries, medications, etc... And not just the over 65 crowd as the governor suggested just yesterday, but EVERYONE (except a long list of crucial workers)!

So, no more golf for the next 3 weeks at least. And maybe no more food either as the local supermarkets look completely empty of the basics such as eggs, ground beef, dry pasta, etc, not even mentioning TP.

The Michigan governor included in her two week restrictions, golf courses.  It's not it's golf season in Michigan though.

What? You aren’t draining those almost without thought? I mean, everyone else is.

Just kidding.

What’s probably meant is 3 feet  one side of the pin, 3 feet other side. No, that’s still not inside the leather, but the point is that we can still play and respect the distance guidelines.

I played today.  Left the flagstick in... common sense.  My other course decided to remove the flags...  seems stupid to me....just don’t touch it.  I won’t bother playing there.

Isn't it odd that the article makes no mention that most everyones hand goes into the cup on every hole.  That and it's possible the virus can live for several days.  How many hands is that in the virus in the cup lifespan?  Golf courses should just get rid of the cups, draw a circle in the grass instead.

Imo, don't let the ball go in the cup.  Today I just rolled my ball an equal distance from the pin to some old cup mark and putted to that.  Didn't keep score though.

There are courses open here in NE Ohio, but it feels to me like they're pushing the envelope a bit. Probably because they took such a beating last year with all the wet weather. It's not even April yet!

As far as the Golf Digest article goes, how do you stay 6' apart when riding in a golf cart?

Good point.  I have a flat putting cup in my study... I may have to bring that to the course.

I haven't played golf yet this year, the weather hasn't allow it. But I'm just thinking off the top of my head. Could you take your ball out of the cup and wipe it with a Clorox wipe after each hole?

Or perhaps you putt to a flag without a hole. Just knock your ball off the flagstick? … I don't know... just thinking this through.

I guess you each take your own cart, or you walk.

The Coronavirus has improved my game.  I no longer think about breathing in...only about breathing out.  This gives me one less thing to think about.  I'm like a Breatharian who, on the point of death, realizes they ought to eat something.

All kidding aside:  this shit may turn out to be the most significant event in my life.  I just hope the hell it isn't.

I have to disagree with you. I listened to a show the other night and what it is is an alien race stationed nearby released the Covid-19 virus to wipe out the all the alien/ human hybrids. I don't know where you get your information from, but I get mine from the internet and James May. 👽

    • Take that logic and apply it to temporary water in the general area. The general area is not supposed to be under water. You are entitled free relief to play from another part of the general area that’s not under water. You are entitled to free relief to play from another area of the bunker. Bunkers are limited in size, and the fact that you were not able to play out of the same bunker no closer to the hole was unfortunate, but how does that possibly equate to “I should be able to play out of the grass instead with no penalty?” It doesn’t make logical sense. The ACC accommodates this by allowing the drop out of the bunker for one penalty stroke instead of the usual two, to account for the difference in lie.
    • Day 1:  I had my first “real” practice today at the driving range.  I hit two buckets of balls utilizing all of my clubs minus the pitching wedge (I haven’t had a lesson on that one yet).
    • like I don't like to think I'm an amazing player as I play off around 7-8 handicap or anything but The one miss I have at the minute is with my strike and its getting really frustrating because I don't see what's causing it please don't say basic stuff like I don't weight shift etc because it wont help here are some videos form certain angles (these aren't that fat in the video maybe slightly chunked but its more the fact that the chunk happens 1 in every 4 iron shots so I'm never consistent) https://imgur.com/epaeE4D https://imgur.com/CKeV0Nm https://imgur.com/lJkliwd https://imgur.com/a/1Z7VwK9
    • You’ve yet to propose anything else. And yet it was, and the rules tell you how to deal with it. Your question has been answered. The Committee can declare them GUR. I disagree with your assessment of common sense. 😀 And yet they didn’t really change this one. Looks like this is about wrapped up? “That Rule is So Unfair!” A Rules Geek’s Generalized Guide to Hot Takes and Overreactions | Rules Geeks I apologize for the length of this post. If I had more time I’d have written a shorter one. – Erik J...
    • When you are penalized for hitting into the sand trap the penalty is having to hit it out of the sand, not out of three inches of water. A sand trap is not the same as a water hazard. A sand trap is not supposed to be under water. It is a unique condition caused  by weather and poor drainage. Most local leagues like ours allow the free drop in this type of situation, as long as there is no area in the bunker to legally drop. This is what I’m talking about, sometimes the official rules of golf don’t align with common sense. That’s why they are finally starting to change them. For example, when wind blows your ball off the green. That was a stupid rule. People being able to call the tv network to say they saw a players ball move. That was a stupid rule. I’m just saying, these are rules made up a long time ago, and it’s time to modernize them.
