I’ve seen what’s overall positive for the game of golf at my course. Spoke with the general manager and there’s quite an influx of families coming to enjoy a round of golf for the first time or a long time since. Only one per cart unless family member or roommate. But I’ve seen quite a bit of players out there who obviously not regular golfers. Hopefully they’ll keep playing when all this passes.

Now that courses are open in NJ with new restrictions, pace of play has been great. I no longer feel limited to playing only in the mornings in order to get 18 holes in under 4:00.

Is that mostly because of the twosome rule?  Or other things, as well?  I'm playing Tuesday and am hoping things move quickly.

It is actually strange. Played today. There was a twosome in front of us and the group behind us, foursome was always on the tee box a hole behind. I think my foursome played slower this way. Odd!

Twosomes and 16 minute intervals.

Yesterday there were times my partner and I had to wait on the pair of higher handicap players ahead of us, but it might have added 15 minutes total to the round at most. We still finished in 3:22. We had the third tee time of the day.

Today I teed off at 12:52 and played with a man with a disability, so he didn't move very quickly outside of his cart. We finished in 3:16.

A friend said they are missing baseball. My first thought was, "At least I don't have to endure the Reds getting their butts handed to them all the time.

My wife and I have been going out of our way and saying hello to everyone we pass on our walks. We drove around in her convertible yesterday and I waved to anyone I saw on the side of the road. Almost all that made eye contact waved back.

Haha. In a full-length season you could follow all three of those teams and maybe bag a total of 80 victories, combined.

That's like saying brussel sprouts are better than asparagus. They all taste bad, but at least brussel sprouts don't make your urine smell really bad. On the plus side, many of us are spared the agony of defeat.

When I turn on the golf tournament on CBS at 2 pm, we don't have to watch the last 15 minutes of the basketball game, then 10 minutes summarizing all of the other sports events going on today.

You hit that nail on the head!  I always play a round of golf on the Sunday morning of the Pebble Beach tournament... come home, start a fire in the fireplace, pour a red wine, put together a fruit, cheese and salmon plate and turn on the TV promptly at 12:00 Noon, when my channel guide says the tournament begins... uh uh, basketball!  (I did get smarter a few years ago and began recording it on the DVR and would start watching around 12:30, fast-forwarding through the commercials and Clint Eastwood)

I get to ride my motorcycle more.  Except when heading out to the golf course.  But in general, I've been riding up to the mountains.  Great ride.

    • Day 19 - 2026-01-08 10 minutes of net work. Feeling very good about changes but need to film soon. Next few days will be indoor mirror work as we head into the mountains.
    • Day 6: 2026.01.09 Some swing work in the mirror. Need to work on home setup to be able to get more out of evenings where I can't make it to the range.
    • I would like to amend my original comment on the new Maxfli irons. Yes, $800 for forged irons is a pretty good price and they do feel good BUT...I have since found out that $800 is only for off the shelf, standard issue clubs with standard lengths, lofts, lies and shafts. Any change made from stock results in huge up-charges so that the final price ends up pretty much the same as similar forged irons from any of the major manufacturers.
    • These were almost all included on the list of Clarifications or revised Model Local Rules released just a few days ago.  I'm pretty sure the first 3 are brand new MLRs (Moved/Wrong Place, Embedded Ball in someone else's pitch mark, Internal OB applies only to tee shot) that the PGA Tour is choosing to use.  The 16.1 Rule (relief near a Putting Green) was revised allowed a Committee to give relief for more than just Immoveable Obstructions, microphone holes would be classed as GUR (a hole made by the maintenance staff).  The replacement club rule was available before, the E-3 (Lift Clean and Place distance) could have been defined as "one scorecard" before, they're just a change in how the PGA choices. Here are the January 1 Clarifications and revised MLRs https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/rules-hub/clarifications-of-the-rules-of-golf.html#cp
