Oy, Florida, c'mon man.

Wow!  And he is in charge of when to reopen the Sate?

Partly explains why some of the Florida beaches are open.

Don’t forget fishing, golf, and gun ranges!  :-)

Oh yeah.  We have a lower infection rate, and mortality rate than Colorado, despite a relatively aged population.

Credit where it’s due though.  In Colorado, the marijuana dispensaries remain open.  So you’ve got that goin’ for you.  :-D

A Mass. General researcher says the results point to a « raging epidemic, » but may also indicate the city is further along the disease curve than some other municipalities.

Public health experts already knew Chelsea had the state’s highest rate of confirmed COVID-19  cases and that the actual rate was probably higher. At least 39 residents have died from the virus, and 712 had tested positive as of Tuesday, a rate of about 1,900 cases per 100,000 residents, or almost 2 percent.

64/200 = 32% of course.

Well, it took a lot of pressure from within his own state to issue a stay at home order, as one of the last ones to do so.

And don't forget this:

img.jpg?width=1200&coordinates=0%2C14%2C

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis modeled improper safety procedures at a recent press briefing by wearing only one glove and touching his face.

It would be funny, if it wasn't so sad.

Preliminary results from lab experiments show the virus doesn't survive long in high temperatures and high humidity, and is quickly destroyed by sunlight.

medRxiv - The Preprint Server for Health Sciences
  • They estimated 45% of infected in the study were asymptomatic. They surveyed it multiple times and confirmed that no symptoms came about during the course of the infection. Between the 14 day window of the first and 2nd survey most had cleared the infection.
  • They found no incidence of viral load meaning worse outcomes.
  • Asymptomatic were just as infectious as those with symptoms.
  • A lot of elderly were asymptomatic as well.
  • 234 children aged 0-10 were tested and none were positive while 13 lived in infected homes.
  • Older aged infected patients took on average longer to clear the virus than younger patients.
  • Estimated r0 between 3-4 with a 80-90% drop once lockdowns were instituted.
  • The IFR of this study had a range of 0.2-0.6.

Well, there you go.  We've had sunshine, straight through, for the last 3 weeks.  We're good...

While the DHS describes the results as preliminary, they may eventually make their way into specific recommendations. “Outdoor daytime environments are lower risk for transmission,” the briefing states.  -  Sounds to me like there's reason to open golf courses in WA state.

Excuse me while I go have a happy hour gin& tonic on my sunny patio.

The UW Medicine Virology Lab is one of the first in the country to get a new Abbott test that checks your blood for a special COVID-19 antibody.

Is this how people get tested for COVID-19, or is there a different procedure?

This is even outdated for me.

On top of ventilators, face masks and health care workers, you can now add COBOL programmers to the list of what several states urgently need as they battle the coronavirus pandemic.

Note: The link would not embed for some reason, but if you know COBOL, New Jersey wants YOU!

At one time I did some programming in Cobol.   I haven't done any coding in years but wouldn't be interested even if my knowledge was current.

Up until this blood test, it was a very invasive nasal swab, one that felt like they were tickling your brain.    Hopefully this simple blood test is accurate and readily available.

Testing for different things. The swabs are used to test for the genetic material of the virus itself. The blood test is used to test for antibodies made by the person as a reaction to the virus, which takes time for the body to produce.

From the College of American Pathologists website:

Quote

Serologic tests are used to identify patients who have developed antibodies (eg, IgM, IgG) to an infectious pathogen. The potential roles for COVID-19 serology tests include:

Providing data on seroprevalence

Identifying potentially immune healthcare workers who can be redeployed to front-line work

Testing of convalescent plasma for antibodies used in clinical trial treatments for COVID-19.

It is important for clinical laboratories to understand and communicate to providers that COVID-19 serology tests are currently not recommended as an acute diagnostic and should not replace RT-PCR on upper respiratory specimens for diagnosis. The timing and degree of immune response to COVID-19 is not yet fully understood, and serology tests will be negative prior to development of antibodies which can take several days after infection with the virus.

I just can’t resist:

    • I've played the Tour in both white and yellow.  They play well and seem to hold up pretty good even when running into trees or cart paths.  Right now, I've been trying them against the Bridgestone Tour B RX ball and I really like both.  The Snell 3.0 looks to be a great update to the issues Snell was running into with the previous generation.

    • Day 128: 5/3/24 Spent 10 minutes chipping and putting at The Creek golf course after visiting a relative.  Greens are slow, and I putted quite well. Perhaps I should seek courses with much slower greens!
    • Not to take away from the OP's question but the Snell 3.0 is about all you could ask for in a ball. I'm not a paid spokesman and my opinion does not reflect on the owner of the site. Lexi Thompson could beat most people with a Top Flite, or a Nitro. Ben Griffin? He doesn't offer a lot of street cred so I'll pass. Now if Fat Perez or Heavy Ballesteros start using it then?????? 😀
    • Just read that Peter Oosterhuis passed away. He was the one and only celebrity I have asked for an autograph! In September 2007, I was in the Charlotte Airport awaiting a flight reading my October 2007 Golf Magazine. It was during the FedEx playoffs and Tiger had just won the previous tournament with the Tour Championship the next event. I watched the event listening to the dulcet tones of Peter Oosterhuis, among others. I opened the magazine, and started reading an article about Oosterhuis and the opening picture had him posing as James Bond in a movie’s opening sequence. I looked up from the article and he was sitting directly across from me!    I approached and showed him the article and asked if he would sign the photo. Mr. Oosterhuis asked “Are you keen on golf?” When I responded positively, we spoke for about 10 minutes discussing the fact that both Phil and Tiger had won FedEx events prior to the Tour Championship. He was very gracious and a wonderful storyteller. I was saddened by his battles with dementia and missed him on CBS’s telecasts.
