A couple studies have shown that monkeys do get immunity after Covid-19. Good news if it also applies to humans.

If this virus behaves like basically every other virus in human history, it will.

Have the same problem. That stuff won't grow on my head, but it wants to grow everywhere else.

In other news, restaurants in Ohio opened for indoor dining today. I imagine my favorite wing bar will be PACKED! I just need to figure out how to eat wings while wearing a mask... 🤔

This is probably the thing that has driven me nuts the most during this. Whenever I mention that there is a potential that a substantial portion (could be 10 percent, could be 75) of the population that has already had the virus, and is now immune, the first thing I get is "YOU DON'T KNOW THAT THERE IS IMMUNITY!", which is true. I don't "know" that people will get immunity if they have it, but

It is so frustrating to me that people are so afraid of this that they look passed logic and reason.

If this is actually true, which wouldn't surprise me, but just another reason why data being presented (on any topic) can't always be believed or trusted.

Yes. It seems both sides are massaging the data to support their beliefs.

Straight from the CDC, so can we take the stupid noodles out of cups and allow flags to be removed again?

Disagree. As a physician for 30 years and with friends in the CDC and WHO at high administrative levels, this type of comment is potentially damaging and usually meant to massage the data of only one side. The side of who want to design their own personal public health habits under the umbrella of freedoms, because, frankly, they are frustrated with the requirements.

I think that everyone should do what they want as a personal freedom if they are only putting themselves in danger. But please don't pretend there is 'data on the other side' that supports the behavior.

The bottom line is that the best preventative we have so far is social distancing, and droplet barriers, whether that be mask or lucite in public places. Gloves should be worn in certain situation but handwashing is always important, gloves or not. There will likely be a vaccine, however, it is important to remember that we have not been able to create a vaccine for some prominent viruses that have high mutation capabilities.

The science is real. Legislative or state regulation suggestions are just that. They are a necessary compromise between public health science and maintenance of the architecture and structural elements of our communities. They are not 'beliefs'. For those not in the sciences or medicine, the word guidelines is confusing. Guidelines are NOT best medical practices in most cases. They are an intersection of best medical practice with various other components. In health systems, guidelines represent the intersection of medical quality and resource allocation, for instance. The 'sweet spot'. In this case, the component may be described as economic sustainability of our communities. Some states are making smarter compromises than others. We will have much data when this is over about how to go forward in future pandemics. My prediction is that the best results will occur in areas where the public health - state government partnership has been the most equal. We'll see.

Below is an evidence based effectiveness model scaled for relative effectiveness for what really works, with examples.

    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
    • Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.
    • Taking a crack it, but looks pretty clear. 11.1  Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence. a. No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment. Reading further down it looks like they have to play the ball as it lies. No replay from the previous spot.
    • I had an interesting one yesterday, a local qualifier for the US Senior Open, at the Cascades Course at the Homestead.  Well, first things first, the VSGA arrnged for the officials to play the Cascades on Monday at the players' practice round rate.  Its lots of fun, rather old-style (built in the 1920s).  anyway, a player missed a short putt, and (apparently embarrassed) took a step to be ready to tap the ball back in.  The ball lipped out, and hit the player's foot.  I was nearby, and they waved me over, and asked "What do we do now?"  I was pretty sure of the ruling, but asked them to wait for a few seconds while i double-checked.  I did have it correct, even though its one of the more confusing rules in the book right now.  I'll leave the correct answer out for now, in case anyone wants to guess, or research it, and post their ruling.
    • I am going to try to try to have more intent with my shot routines. I saw this process in a YouTube video I watched last night.  Decide what you want to happen - Yardage, shot shape, start line Visualize what you want to happen - Straight forward, but one tip he suggested was while focusing the shot take in a slow deep breath (like 4 seconds in duration), hold for 1 second, then exhale slowly (like 4 seconds again). There is some evidence to show that this rhythmic style of breathing can help in calming heart rate and improving focus.  Feel what you want to happen. - Your 1-2 practice swings. Like if you need to hit your PW at 90%, feeling that.  Commit to what you want to happen on the ball.  Post-shot routine, where you either gain confidence from a good shot or learn from a mistake to foster a growth mentality. - If it was a good shot then give yourself some good vibes/feedback. If the shot didn't turn out, then access why to learn from it. I am going to add, don't get negative.
