It was literally all I could do. After I saw my own video I did some more practice while looking at the ball and focusing more on wrists. This was a good one for sure. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

1 April training.

I practiced taking the club back with one hand doing it with my left arm only makes my elbow hurt to much from other injuries. Did it with the right arm, trying to focus on where the plan should be facing and looking at the angle of the club face once it's about parallel to the floor. I usually have mine pointing straight up where it should tilt a little bit. I did the grip check no issues there, and I liked the quick check of the distance between top of club and belt.

Day 2 – Shoulder Pitch

Today we practice turning our torso (as loosely measured across the shoulders) on the proper pitch or angle, roughly perpendicular to the torso angle at setup. Faults that we often see include:

  • Turning the shoulders too flat, which can cause a bunch of problems.
  • The head moving all around as the golfer “adjusts” his shoulder pitch in transition.
  • Poor contact

The drills for today include:

  • 1:00 – Airplane Wings
  • 2:00 – Shaft Across the Shoulders
  • 3:00 – Shoulder to the Spot

No video of day 1.  It was pretty similar to some of the Planemate drills.

Scott, more with the wrists, less by swinging the arms back.

Dan, ditto the above (less so), and your weight is in your heels a little, it appears.

Kevin, club a little low/close. I enjoyed that video sped up. That was a good way to do that.

16 hours ago, Bonvivant said:

Whoa! Long backswings! 🙂 Left wrist only ones should kinda go out in front of you more. A bit less arm swing and a bit more of a 45° angle will help there.

16 hours ago, WillieT said:

Club goes above your belt buckle, a bit high at setup.

15 hours ago, billchao said:

Bill, really good job with the left wrist stuff. A bunch of you can watch his left wrist video and you’ll see that his club is going up and out away from him, because of two things: 1) he’s isolated the wrist movement and isn’t adding in a pivot or arm swing, and 2) he’s not palmar flexing the left wrist, but rather hinging it up at about that 45° angle I talked about in the video.

15 hours ago, DeadMan said:

Daniel you did a good job as well especially with that left wrist.

Matt, nice. And yeah, like practice putting, you can feel it in your back.

14 hours ago, StevenB said:

Steven, like many others a little more arm swing than I’d like to see for the left wrist feeling. I didn’t see a split-hand grip but I’ll assume you did that too. 🙂

14 hours ago, bwdial said:

BW, nicely done. Split hand grip too. Maybe I didn’t mention that as clearly in the video…?

14 hours ago, Wanzo said:

Matt, well done. Some of the actual swings (with the little pivot) still seemed a bit up and out, tough to say, but the pivot should help get the club a bit more parallel at A2… though I’d rather it be out than in, so it’s not the worst thing to practice.

Day 2 - the rain held up a bit, so I was able to film outside. Like a dummy, I wore black so it was tough to see where my sternum was. Also, I have orangutan arms it seems.

Did day 2 on my lunch break today, no video though as I used the mirror in my bathroom with a piece of tape. I spent a lot of time working on this over the winter so I had a good feel for these drills. Got a funny look from my wife as she walked by though.

Day 1. Done These drills are good for me. I have a tendency to turn the club face early on the take away.

Day2. Done. Shoulder turn drills are reinforcing something that I am better at.

I hope to take all these drills to the range when we are finally able to return to golf.

No video today, but I worked on all the drills this morning, much to the amusement of my wife and children;

"Daddy has airplane arms!"

I took what I learned out into the swinglab in the back yard.  My swing felt much more connected, and I really felt like I was striking the ball much better.

Day 2 complete, I like these drills, but need to step outside to get a better feel.  Don't feel my right shoulder getting as high with a club in my hand trying to move inside.
