Sharing a cart with a stranger with a jury-rigged divider

56 members have voted

  1. 1. Comfortable sharing a cart with a stranger? (Multiple choices may be selected)

    • Yes, with a plexiglass divider installed
    • Yes, with a shower curtain type plastic divider
    • Yes, no divider needed
    • Not right now but I could be convinced
    • No. Any separation is not sufficient for me
    • Something else - please explain

I have not seen a divided cart but I have heard they are being created.  My response is "No, not right now...". It is hard to imagine an effective way to install a divider.  Duct tape and a shower curtain doesn't do it for me.  We'll see.

You’re still outside. I have already done this with people I know.

  • iacas changed the title to COVID-19 and Sharing a Cart?

I would not share a cart with a stranger regardless. If I'm being honest, it's primarily because of my wife. She has been pretty amenable to letting me play since California has re-opened our courses, but she wants me to take all necessary precautions, bring my hand sanitizer, etc. - I can't imagine the conversation would go well if she found out I had shared a cart with a stranger.

Covid virus or not, I hate sharing a cart with people, strangers or not.

First, I hate paying for a cart.

Second, proceeding directly to my ball is important to me because I lose track of where it is if I don't. Also, it keeps me more focused on what I'm doing.

Third, I smoke, so that's less comfortable to me (and I'm sure them) when someone is riding with me.

I deal when I have to, but the Covid thing is just another pretty good reason to avoid that situation.

I don't like sharing a cart with a complete stranger regardless of the coronavirus pandemic. I play a lot of golf with people I don't know, I just don't want to share a cart with them.

I have no issue sharing a cart with people I know.

I am cool with either type of divider. I also prefer to walk, but that's not COVID related. It's the main exercise I am getting right now.

Added: Maybe it is COVID related since that is why my gym is closed.

I’d rather walk at this point in time.

Yes, COVID-19 is the reason I don’t want to share a cart with a complete stranger 🙃

I prefer to walk as it is, but especially if I'm playing with people I don't know. COVID or not, I really don't have much, if any, interest in sharing a cart with a stranger.

I live on Long Island, NY right in the middle of the hot spot. Courses are open again but it is one person per cart, however, if and when they go to sharing a cart I wont do it regardless if I know the person or not. I'll walk instead even though that means I can only play nine holes due to physical limitations. Yes I am that concerned. Maybe after a vaccine is available but that will be a long time from now.

Pretty sure the last time I saw Alan Shepard hitting a golf ball he was wearing a COVID-19-proof suit.

No riders other than my wife for now.
If and when Covid is gone, then I will allow friends, again.

As a Member, I'm rarely playing with any strangers other than a members guest who may need a ride.
I'd also be good with letting them drive and get some exercise and only ride between green to next tee.

I voted yes, no divider needed. I completely understand any other opinion, but for me I am not that worried about this virus. That isn't to say that I'm being extra careless, as I wear a mask when I'm indoors (public indoor spaces), and generally have been keeping my distance.

I would rather walk anyway, but if I'm riding, it wouldn't bug me to have a completely normal cart without precautions. When I played yesterday, it was with 2 strangers who rode together. They had known each other since at least high school and were in their mid 40s, so long time friends, but I found it interesting that when we got to the first box, they each offered me a handshake. I shook hands with each of them in turn, and we were off. Same thing on the 18th green after putts were holed. One of them was a construction manager that has been working through covid (as have I), and the other hadn't been to work in 2 months.

I rarely shared a cart with anyone before covid, so I am not sharing a cart now. With my husband, yes. But not other players, friends or not.

Here you go Shane @CarlSpackler.

Looks effective to me. A force field would be better, but they haven't been invented. Yet...

    • Ah, got it.  Yeah I'd just play it for bogey. Even as a low handicap I wouldn't be all that upset with a bogey on that hole.
    • Haha I made a I typo. I was thinking two things at once, ‘I don’t think bogey is a bad score’ and ‘I think bogey is a great score’. But I mixed them up and said the opposite
    • How isn't bogey a great score? As a 20 handicap every single time you make a bogey you are playing better than expected. Because if you bogeyed every hole you'd most likely be lower than a 20. You're a high handicap playing a hole that is lined with hazards the entire length of it on both sides.  Bogey is a very solid score for you on that hole.  From 300yds off the tee PGA tour players average 3.71 strokes to hole out. As a high handicap you are going to be more than 1 full stroke higher than that, probably closer to 2 full strokes higher.  If you had 100 different 20 handicaps play that hole I would bet a lot of money that the scoring average is greater than 5.0 Sometimes courses have really hard holes. Play for your bogey, be ecstatic about a par, and do everything possible to minimize double bogey.

    • I don’t think bogey is a great score here. Will try the 7i - 7i approach. If I’m short, I think I can get out of the bunker and if I’m on the right I can chip up.
