This rough is pretty gnarly. I thought they trimmed it some?!! I would imagine they will tighten the course up considerably tomorrow. The greens seem receptive today and pin locations are probably the easiest they'll see.

No, the USGA is still a little gun-shy from all their bitching and moaning before.

Yeah, I heard from someone's mouth on GC yesterday they 'cut' the rough down. Welp, we'll see how this progresses. They got 3 days to toy around though. Money still on winning score over par but my faith shaken a bit.

How's it any different than any other breach of the rules?

It’s quite different really.

When Phil pulled this gambit I feel he was thinking, "I'm done with this frickin' U.S. Open, I've had it with these frickin' slippery greens... and I am Phil Mickelson."  He was doing nothing more than most of us would like to do at times, but don't act on it.  Nevertheless, that doesn't excuse him.  Bet he doesn't do it this time around.

Looks like you want to hit it in the fairway, obviously, or even the bunker to avoid the rough!

They also need to keep rounds under 5 hours or they won’t finish bc of daylight. Mike Davis hinted last night they wanted to ease it up. But I think the biggest reason, as was mentioned, is their caving to the bitching and Moaning from two years ago.

By the way, somewhere the superintendent is griping because they thrive on their course being the toughest in the world and are prolly irate the USGA told them to ease it up, cut the rough and let them score.

I will loose respect all around if someone wins at -7 or better.

Shall we name it 'The Phil Mickleson movement'?

Somewhere on this thread I said I nostalgically supported Phil because it's WF and it's the US Open and all the nostalgic. Still haven't completely abandoned the b-wagon but I'm waffling a bit.

C'mon USGA where's them teeth at??

Yeah, very disappointed. The difficulty is what gives the USGA its identity. If they want to become the PGA Championship, just admit it, but this is two years in a row now the USGA has decided to throw the players a bone. Tomorrow could be a different story, sure, but after listening to Mike Davis last night on the TGC, I had a feeling today was gonna be easy by Winged Foot standards.

That’s why I prefaced it’s only round 1. But just surprised at the pin positions. The pin at 1 is the same one they used when I played. Never thought they’d actually use it for the pros haha. They were very kind today.

Someone needs to tell Phil that it’s cloudy out. He can take off the Miami Vice shades.

Even he doesn't want to see his own play.

The greens will be on life support by Sunday, and the rough probably won’t be cut until Monday.

He’s got the personality to succeed in that position and I think he’d consider doing it part-time for now, full-time down the road.

Ya...FIGJAM would be good in the booth.....but getting Charles Barkley would be EPIC....that guy is SO FUNNY.

The Match in 2018 in Vegas between Phil and Tiger was so BORING.....it was only worth watching to hear the SH*T that would come from Sir Charles.

This Peacock crap is pissing me off. I had no idea they were going to cut away this afternoon. I checked my Roku and there is no app. I'm not giving in to then trying to suck you into yet another service. (I know I'm being stubborn). I assume this won't be an issue over the weekend?

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
