I don't have yet to encounter another using the kiXck ball.

At the Newport Cup we had 8 or 10 of us using the KickX!.  For a long time I've used a widely spaced dot on each side of the number, on both sides of the ball.  If I need to hit a provisional and don't have a different number handy, I'll add a dot just below the number.

I learned from someone else's misfortune.  Playing with a guy in a tournament at my club.  He hit his first near the OB, just over the crest of a hill, so he hit a provisional too.  We found them both.  They were marked the same.  He couldn't identify which was the first and which was the provisional.  He had to go back and hit 5 from the tee.  ALWAYS make sure you can tell your provisional from your original ball.

What marking(s) do you put on your golf ball? Is there any particular reason for your marking(s)?

I fill in the dimples above the "i's in Titleist. There are only ever two variations on the location of the dimples relative to the script so sometimes it's shifted slightly right and sometimes it's slightly left of the pre-printed dots.

On occasion I'll use a ball from a different manufacturer, then it's just two black dots above the logo.

What was more confusing was walking back to the carts from the tee or green and trying to figure out which one was which. :-P  It was pretty much a 50/50 proposition.

On topic:  I put my kids (and wifes) initials on mine around both logos.  I see no reason to not be loud about it.  There is ZERO chance at mistaking my ball for somebody elses ball if you are paying attention.  ZERO.

I put three dots in a triangle by filling in the dimples.  I do this on 3-4 sides of the ball with a black sharpie.  My balls can mainly be found in deep in the woods of the right hand side of the fairway.

I used to write 'TLC' on the ball... but I've switched to using a turtle to mark mine.  I mark them when I buy a new dozen so they're ready to go.

I'll rotate between blue and orange turtles... so, when I need to hit a provisional, I just switch the colors.

I was out playing a certain course this past year and found two balls which some body wrote on them "Jesus Saves"

Big Green Stripes from a ball template I have - they cross on the side opposite the model callout.  lined up between the brand name marks.  It's supposed to be for putting alignment, but I don't use it for that - but the plethora of green lines make mine easy to find.

not this tool in this picture, but one close to it

You can get Titleists with custom text (I don't, but some friends do) fairly reasonable if you buy a few dozen - I found a custom Titleist last year (empty course, edge of water on a par 3) that said "This ball was shanked by (full name)" - it made me chuckle.  After my round, because I found it funny, I asked at the desk if he was a member so I could give it back.

I really like the custom marking templates.  I'd like to get one soon.  I found a Velocity with a red chili pepper on it.  something like that, or maybe my college logo....Even if I did, I have about 180 golf balls already greenstriped to lose before I'd get to.  (Like new bags of 3 brands I switch from - Titleists, Callaways, Taylormades)

I put my wife's name and my two daughters' names on all the balls with magic markers.   I've had several put in my locker or returned to me, which is nice.

'V' in red next to the number. If provisional has same number, I add another V nesting the first one.

I also learnt the hard way to add the mark to the number on both sides of the ball.

I had a gift card for Edwin Watts and I needed some balls, so... when I went to check out, I still had like $12 on the gift card and they had a bunch of the Tin Cup templates there.  I found the turtle, which happens to be a favorite of mine and my wife, so I bought that.

The first few I did, I did with a standard Sharpie and it looked like garbage.  I picked up a pack of the Ultra Fine tip Sharpies and started marking them with that.  They look MUCH better.

It's definitely a conversation piece and it makes it easy to identify my ball since so many others play the Taylor Made Project (a) ball too.

But... yeah, if you have that many balls to lose... I think you're good for awhile (although with how I've been playing recently, I'm pretty sure I'm keeping Taylor Made in business).

I play yellow callaway supersoft. Other golfers seem to think yellow golf balls are radioactive. No one has stole a ball of mine since i switched to the yellow.
