I'm just guessing here, but I bet you were not out there on a tour of the public grammar schools.

Guessing Vinsk toured your old high school where they had an elective class in shot shaping, with special instruction how to not shape it hard left...

Wisconsin golfer starts round snowless and ends up in a snowstorm. The sequence here is backwards from snow to dry.

I've lived both in Massachusetts and Michigan and it always surprised me that so many life-longers there hated snow with the passion of southerners who understandably think of it as an alien invasion whenever they get a dusting.

For my kids it's the start of the eagerly awaited ski season..

Where in Massachusetts? I liked snow when I did ski. But when your focus changes to golf, snow is an inconvenience.

My kids too.
They were totally excited to see it.

Personally, I normally don't mind it too much. It usually just signifies the "official" end to golfing season. I knew I was on borrowed time. I actually got 2 rounds in December this year.

However, this year I am particularly annoyed by the snow. The swing changes and the work I've put in are just now starting to pay dividends. I shot 82 and 78 in December. I was really hoping for one more round this year as I was finally hitting it well again.

Life is just better when you are hitting it well.

Lowell. I went to UMass from 1997-1999. We used to visit the WPI library for injection molding books we didn't have at our library. Worcester is such a pretty town.

This is my second inning at skiing in the last 5 years. I love it and even with a broken ankle last year, thankfully it didn't affect skiing much.

Admittedly I would probably feel different now about a foot of snow on the greens. Back then golf was only something I had heard of. But I have golfed on snow dusted course when in MI back in 2004. It was 'fun'.. haha.

Cheers!! That is great to hear. It is cathartic at so many levels.

Welp, if ya'll want a break from the snow and tee it up in semi-warm weather.. invitation wide open. It's not too bad here (40s-50s weather through winter) I golf throughout winter as long as ground is not frozen.

C'mon down Gandy... Lol.

But I would be surprised anyone coming from a few states over in winter would actually come to Virginia. Not exactly destination winter golf. Northern most I hear is Myrtle on the east coast. Even that is iffy.

Still in invitation open..😊

Excellent engineering school and excellent university in general! We call it Woburn High grad school north. Lots of kids go there from here.

The cold gets to me too. I usually practice outside and it gets challenging. Indoor places are pretty pricey around here.

I would always play winter golf as long as the ground wasn't frozen but, at my age, my hands are the first things that start to get real cold. Last year I used those air activated hand warmers a couple of times to good effect between shots. I played Saturday outside Philly and it was bearable (mid-40's, no wind). Mid-40's is my low these days so I don't know how much I will be playing this winter. C'mon spring.

Depends on the wind and sun too. 40F with no wind and sun is tolerable for me. Even 35-40F. But add wind and clouds and it gets much harder for me to stay warm.

Sounds about right for me. If I can wear my under armor cold long sleeve shirt, and a light jacket or vest overtop then I'll play.

I just started using those this year. I guess that makes me an old guy too.

I kept one in each front pocket. One of my playing partners told me I wasn't allowed to use them "to warm my balls".... Everyone started laughing like 6th graders. 🤣

The handicap season is over. You should have told him you can warm your balls with whatever you want 😜

And we’ve since learned that there is no advantage to that.

Actually had that happen to myself and friend of mine playing golf in Michigan on New Years Eve day. Started out sunny and upper 40's and by the time we finished it looked the same as above. We were walking, however. Ended up being a fun day. But I don't miss snow at all.

Who's idea was this to revive this thread?   It's depressing!   😅

Since a local club has installed the simulators last winter, the winters seem shorter.

We are going to attempt our first winter snowbird for 3 weeks in March and I'm eager to see how another section of the country deals with winter.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
