I will say that Dan Quinn should get a portion if the winners share.  You are on the 23 with 5 minutes left and all you need to do is kick a field goal and you... pass?

In all my years, I can't recall a coach that ever took away the opportunity to run off some time and then kick a chip shot for an 11 point lead to win the game, much less the Super Bowl.

Nah.

GOATs aren't involved in multiple cheating scandals.

What a tremendous come-from-behind win for Not The Steelers against Not The Steelers. It's always so much more enjoyable to watch Super Bowls involving Not The Steelers. So here's to continued success for any and all teams who are Not The Steelers.

Some interesting data from the game: http://supplementreviews.com/articles/entertainment/ball-in-play-for-a-total-of-387

Let me first start by saying that love watching football.  It’s an incredible combination of suspense, strategy, action and athleticism; I wouldn’t change a thing if I could.  Just because the ball was in play for only 16 minutes and 4 seconds of the 64 minute play clock (including OT) does not mean I wasn’t thoroughly entertained.

One of my other passions is data, and I’ve always been curious to see exactly how much time is spent with the ball actually in play.  So this year, I decided to be the life of the super bowl party and tally up every second of the broadcast to see what we’re getting for the four hours we spend viewing.

Also, I wonder if the overtime result (one team winning a Super Bowl without the other having a possession) might re-spark the debate over the "fairness" of the NFL's sudden death OT rules.  I contend that the change to the rules they made a few years ago was an improvement, but it could definitely be argued that they could go further.  A couple options:

  • They could simply require that both teams have an opportunity, so if the team that wins the coin toss scores at all, then the other gets an opportunity.
  • They could just match college altogether by removing the clock and giving each team the ball at the 25.
  • Or, they could just not make it sudden death.  A full extra 15 minutes (or 10 if that's too long) to decide a winner.

I would argue that any of those (and probably some I haven't thought of) are better than sudden death.

I agree and was wondering this myself.  I think making overtime as much like the regular game as possible in any sport is the best option.  What a crappy, albeit exciting, way to win or lose when it's a shootout in soccer for example.  I like the idea for football of just playing an extra 10 min period.  The other options (including current) bring in a whole new set of strategies that are different than the actual game.

That means nothing.

If you want impressive by your standard. Steve Young wasn't even drafted and won 3 Superbowl's.

This came up last night. I think it would make common sense to give the other team an opportunity till possession ends, which would still maintain an element of sudden death. Of course if they score in return then go to a full period of 15 mins.

I wonder what prompted the current format in the first place.

As are Montana's "silicone spray on the O-line jerseys" admission and Jerry "Stick-um" Rice admission, and the 70s Steelers Steroids admission (they were my fav team BTW).

Young didn't play in two of them!

Steve Young started out in the USFL league before it went under. He was not in the draft from college to the NFL.

    • Day 107 - More pitching practice, playing around with trajectory.
    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

Did he do any of these things? • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
